I don't know, was wondering the same thing a couple minutes ago, great minds think alike I guess :).

If you're doing it for youtube, don't worry about it. You're not making money from it in anyway. But, if you really are worried about it, you can give the character a full name, like his name being "Shortius" and he goes by Short, or something to that effect. And, with Indiana Jones, you could always just call him Dr. Jones, they can't copywright peoples' names.

Whether you make money on it or not doesn't make any difference at all in terms of violating copyright. Copying without permission is against the law. Granted, on a home-movie project posted to YouTube, it's really really (really!) unlikely anyone is going to care and worst-case scenario is a cease-n-desist letter.

Parody is protected speech, so parody away. While "Dr. Jones" may not be copyrighted, I'd bet dollars-to-donuts there's trademarks and brands involved. Different issue, but they can come after you for it if they want. Mikey Mouse sure will, parody or not, and he's one mean ol' swamp rat you don't wanna mess with.

That's about the most of it. Parody is protected speech, but be smart about it -- I trust you have the descrimination to be reasonable.

I like that you mentioned my favourite rule of thumb: Never, ever touch Disney. Disney is above the law. Politicians, judges and lawyers will sell their soul for that little rodent.

HAHA. That provoked me to do a quick search and I found this

Like they said before. If its just for youtube most likely no-one will care, but still... use your head.

There are entire movies and tv seasons on youtube, if they start a major crackdown, you'd be far down the list. And, if you don't bash the Indiana Jones movies, they probably won't care. Notice the word probably, I can't garuntee anything, but I'd say go for it. There are a trillion star wars or 300 parodies already up.

Yeah I'm just thinking for the future if I want to become a Youtube Partner or something.

Well waverly films are partners, and they have their crystal skull video (The test film for Indy Mogul). They have the crystal skull and a guy saying "Henry Jones junior"... I wouldn't be too worried about little things like saying "Dr. Jones"

As long as it's a parody and not bashing, I don't think you'll have a problem.
