ya, I know all the editing can be done by your self but I'm trying to meet people who would want to act, film, write, build, practice, and just have fun with the art of making little videos. Like as a recreational type deal. People play basketball or skateboard and others shoot little skits for youtube and their own pleasures. I never took any classes on the subject but I do get very excited when the topic is brought up. Plus I like to get my hands dirty.

Check your city for filmmaking classes or camps and also go to your cities performing arts center and see if they host film festivals. Those are good places to meet fellow filmmakers.

Ask your friends if they know anybody interested in making a movie. That's how I get some of my crew.

Definitely check out the local community theater houses, like here is a couple:

Local colleges and high schools drama departments are good places to start, talking to some teachers or professors, and explain you want to do some filming, and the students could get some field experience.

Also, check for local film festivals, film classes, writing classes/camps, etc.

Tampa is a BIG place, once you start looking in the right places you'll be overwhelmed with the responses.

Honestly, you'd be surprised how many of your friends would like to help out with a film if you act professional and give them notice WAY in advance. I didn't think I'd find many people to act and be a crew in a short film I'm in pre-production for but with a few Craigslist ads and a Facebook group I've gotten a lot of friends and some other people wanting to know more and excited to help out!

This is my first larger budget film and I am excited to start shooting.

Mitch

P.S. Larger budget means $5000-$7000 for me... Lol

I don't know a huge amount of 'film makers' where I am - but I know model makers, musicians, a couple of potential actors etc etc.

There might be people that you can hook up with locally who are specialists within a specific field (that isn't directly about films) - and this can give your stuff an edge.

For example, I have a model maker 'on call' - it's pretty awesome to know that, given enough time, I can get props and models designed and made. I've just made friends with a musician... he may just be the composer for my next project...

...oh yeah... and if you're struggling to find people to join you in a project, just keep doing stuff as best you can. Don't let it stop you producing material - as the material will draw others into future projects.
