What's the best editing software out of the biggest. (Sorry if this is already been done)
I have tried my best to include most but if you choose other, could you post the name in the forum.

I went with adobe, just because it's what I'm most used to. But I really want final cut for my mac. I've never even heard of Sony Vegas...gotta check it out.

I was going to put after effects but I wouldn't have room for other. Atleast if i have forgotten like 5 big ones you can put down other

10-20-2007, 06:54 PM
You forgot Avid Express.

Fisherking
10-20-2007, 07:06 PM
You forgot Avid. Also - After Effects isn't really a non-linear editing program. It doesn't belong on this list.

no-one said anything about non-linear....he just said the biggest (which I pressume means the most popular in this case)

nooneimportant77
10-20-2007, 07:16 PM
yeah after effects isnt an editing system, so dont worry about it, i think vegas will win out of popularity with indy mogul types...

ciwi286
10-20-2007, 07:18 PM
im confused...it edits video footage, does it not!?

nooneimportant77
10-20-2007, 07:19 PM
after effects? not really. and i dont think anyone here has a linear editing set up....so dont worry about no one saying anything about non linear or linear

ciwi286
10-20-2007, 07:24 PM
....are we talking about the same after effects!

Adobe after effects...the very software I use to edit videos on!

nooneimportant77
10-20-2007, 07:26 PM
yeah i'm talking about adobe after effects, the program i only use for effects composting.

ciwi286
10-20-2007, 07:45 PM
and what is that doing....editing the video footage!

now after looking at the rest I see there all linear editing tools and agree it should not be there but it is nonetheless video editing software!

nooneimportant77
10-20-2007, 07:50 PM
they are not liniear editing tools, they are non liniear. basicly linear editing means you actually cut the film or tape and put it together to edit your movie or tv show or whatever. anything on a computer is non linear.

after effects is non liniear, but its not an editing system it is an effects composting system, it can be used to edit, but its not really optimal.

aaahhhhh I see ow...(phew that took a while)

I was taking the word edit literally but I see what you mean now ( and sorry I obviously misunderstood the whole linear-nonlinear concept)

thanks for explaining it! (god i feel so dumb)

I went for Final Cut, its just the best. I used it to edit one of my films when on a film course and it just blew me away, now I have to use Videostudio again and its just not the same.

Premiere pro! I've had it for a few years now, and it continues to surprise me. I think I'll upgrade to CS3 soon, for that extra bit of editing goodness.

avid does suck in my opinion, avid makes basic things to complicated.

this poll will determine whether I get premiere pro cs3 or stick with vegas pro 8!

Vegas 6.0 is not latest version, thats vegas 8.0 Pro, that came out not to long ago.

felix78

I got 6.0 pro, and ill stay with it as it isnt much different between 6 pro, 7 pro and 8 pro.

can someone PM me about the sony vegas free trial. how long does it last >? can you export?

fireflametv
10-21-2007, 04:54 PM
If I remember, the trial lasts 30 days but I'm not sure if you can export.
Make sure you use it a few days so you get used to it as it may be slightly confusing if you have used another program for a while.

It is only complicated if you are not familar with the program. That can be said for any editing program. I have used Avid for years, and found it hard and complicated to switch to Final Cut because I was so use to what I was using in Avid.

I've found Final Cut (especially 6) to be the best editing software.
However I'm also fond of Avid (Although I admit it took a bit to get my head around it).
I wish I had the monies to have them on my home computer.... :D

I dont think there really is any comparing between AFX and Premiere. They are used for totally different things. I guess in terms of sheer potential and awesomeness, AFX takes the cake, but it would be a huge pain in the ass to cut a whole film in AFX.

nooneimportant77

after effects is NOT an editing program.

and it seems that my favorite, final cut pro, is in the lead

My Vegas trial recently ran out (I plan on buying it soon) but I decided to download a Premiere Pro Demo. I was actually really dissapointed. Vegas is much better. There is a much better interface and I was more comfortable with it.

Ulead MediaStudio is probably the best and easiest I've used.

Which demo did you use? If you used 2.0 on up the interface is really easy to work with. Once I got used to premiere I found it much better than vegas.

I used the CS3 demo. It's a good program, I just like the way Vegas works better, maybe because it's the first I've used. I downloaded the After Effects CS3 demo and I do like that a lot.

Depends on what you want to do. Indy is FCP, Pro is both FCP and Avid. Avid still controls most major networks and movie studios. If you are looking to get a job somewhere in the film or video industry, it is a good idea to know at least the basics of both.

I personally like Avid, don't ask me why, I'm just comfortable with it. Now, if I had the money, I would buy a Mac, get both FCP and Avid. I'm a college student, so I can get both really cheap.

I can get the latest Avid Xpress Pro for $300 because I'm a student, I love it. I don't like FCP because it is mac only, I think that was a bad choice on Mac considering T.V. is still PC based.
