JVC MiniDV GR-D350u

I own the camcorder and paid almost $400 for it.

I like the colour and the quality so far has been pretty decent! But would you guys say this is okay for amateur filmmaking?

I myself use a Canon GL2, it's got great quality and I have an old (7 years maybe) JVC Camcorder. I still use both but the GL2 has crisper image and over all better picture.

I'm using a consumer model camcorder...a Panasonic PVGS65 to be specific. It has a 3 CCD system for color. Basically, most consumer cams have one CCD for Red Green and Blue. A 3 CCD has a seperate chip for each color, thus providing true color.

First thing I learned in film school. Make sure you use something with at least 3 CCD's. Most are pretty expensive, but there are lower end models available. Mine was only 500 bucks.

Well i don't know if this has 3 CCDs or one or whatnot but i do know this camera has great colour! Especially out in the sun. So when i get some clamp lights it will really show indoors!

So back to the question, anyone knows if this could have a shotgun mic hooked to it?

3 CCD's give you a more "true" color. Especially when white balanced properly.

Hmmm, I may just have to do up a video on smaller consumer camcorders and send it in. You know, the basics, and good features to consider. Ie, 3 CCD's, lens, microphone inputs, right down to the actual user features ie, F-stops, shutter speeds, white balancing, etc.

That camera does not have 3CCDs, I would go with a Panny GS series, but make sure its a three chip first, because i know some of the lower numbered gs cams arent. Also, im pretty sure that the GS series has good manual controls.
