well i have never done this but i would guess it would be your buddy liquid latex again. get spirit gum and sequins (i probably spelled that wrong) or anything that looks like a scale. use the spirit gum to apply the scales to the actors face and cover in latex

Ah, good idea. Thanks a lot.

That'd get messy, those sequins or whatever they're called would get all over everything

what if you put the liquid latex on your actor, then used something with the same texture as scales, but probably a little more dramatic so you can really see it, and press that into the latex so it takes that form? i havent worked with liquid latex really so i dont know if it can do something like that, but if that works then you can just use some make up so its whatever color you want.

would that work? or am i pushing the limits of liquid latex with that idea?

I would not do this to yourself, do it to a friend you don't like. Taking that off would take a long time and/or REALLY hurt!

i thought they make some special effects liquid latex, like that gel 10 stuff that isn't too hard to take off. i dont really know though like i said i've never really worked with it, i've never done something that called for it

Here's an idea, get clear plastic bubble wrap, and spray paint it light green(or your color as needed). Then take a paint roller and roll over it with dark green pain. Then wrap that around your actors limbs. We were going for cheap and easy right?

That could work, I'll try that. Thanks.

How about a ballistics gel arm (or a regular arm). Cut paper circles out (whatever shape you want). Glue the shapes to the arm, then coat it in liquid latex. If you want you could even paint it.

If you want a full body "Creature from the Black Lagoon" type effect, do something similar to the Dummy tutorial from a few episodes ago, spray paint the duct tape dark green, and cover it in paper mache, or a thin layer of polymer clay.

Then while it's still wet, go over it with a texture roller, this is PERFECT:

http://www.taxidermy.com/cat/09/maczscaler.html

It has wonderful different types of scales, it gives you instead, wonderful looking scale patterns, over wide parts of the body.

Underneath, you'll want to wear a form fitting leotard, so basically tights, top and bottom, and a bald cap for your head.

Something that works rather well, and is rather cheap and easy, is to use panty hose over the face.

http://www.channel101.com/shows/view.php?media_id=1388

In this episode of The Wastelander from Channel101, about half-way through, the Wastelander fights a green reptile monster creature, it's really just Rob Schrab with green paint rubbed all over his body, and a pantyhose stretched over his face.

They stretched it over is face, cot eye holes, and in those, they glued little plastic globes. They put the paint on really heavy, and for the top of it, i'm guessing pushed a little paper or something to may the top "fin".

They let it dried, and it was a nice form fitting mask.

Do a similar thing, put segments of paper mache on the panty hose while it's stretched over your actors face, with holes cut for his eyes and mouth, paint it the same dark green color, and just give it the same texture and color.

You can use spray paint on most of the body, but not on this segment, use really heavy latex, and clay or paper mache to give it texture.

Add some little touches, like a jutted forehead piece, like how they do the Vampires on Buffy.

This could be a great template for making an actor look more "Snake-like" if its a full body thing, use clay and/or paper mache for this, or just cut parts of a rubber mask out, and glue them to the nylon.

Other than that, use cheap sunglasses lens and glue them at the eye holes, and cover the edges up, you can paint bulging yellow slit eyes, or just use the actors eyes and give him contacts if you want something different.

Although you can just leave his eyes alone, and using spirit gum, just glue the nylon around his eyes, and cover it with make-up and paint, making his eye holes greenish too, and making the seams of the mask fade into his skin, do this at his mouth too, and just give him some basic halloween vampire teeth you can get at any Party or Costume store, and BAM.

His leotard, paint it green, and at the seems of each joint, you can just add segments (shape them kind of like elbow or knee pads, so they actor still has movement in the joint, but it kind of covers up the seam. Also just stretching fabric along each joint seam, and painting the same texture on it, can cover it up really well, and keep it from looking like a non-segmented joint) on top of it, to cover up that its cloth underneath the segmented sections.

But one of the best things, is once you're done, get all of the individual parts, get the actor out of them, and spray paint them with a shiny lacquer, or just occasionally mist the actor with glycerin (it won't dry as fast, and won't form droplets as easily since it's a bit thicker) it'll make them look kind of shiny and slippery like a snake.

try taking a bunch of guitar picks (or something cheap that look like scales) and layer them likes scales with spirit gum. could also use liquid latex :-)

you could get some type of glue and make it dry but that may be to thick so it look as though it is peeling off but thats not really scaled thats all i can think of id go with liquid latex and sequins

I agree with ampix0! that's what i would do

Get a really tight peice of clothing, and the cut little half circles in it for scales. Then, paint over it with green and blue shiny paint.

Now, im unsure on how to get the texture ON the scales, but you could use wax.
Rool a bit into a ball and flatten it and use spirit gum to attatch it to the face. Then just keep doing this but layer over the circular pieces of wax in a scal'y way.

Now a kewl paint job.

Another method could be Get some Stockings/Pantyhose/leotard(likethe ones that come in those plastic eggs) paint it to the color You need and then sew plastic sequins On to them This will provide a skin tight suit for your arms and legs(won't be too warm and allso if you paint them you really need to have a ducktape dummy and put the hose on those so the paint drys streched, Now Once those are all sewn on(in Layers to give the scale effect) You can Use latex to hold them down and to apply more color and to be better looking now It would take a lot of supplys and it most likely only be use able once, How ever you might be able to save the sequins If you remove them allso if you wanted them to have missing broken scales you could apply all of the make-up and once the latex drys remove the sequins and then fill the imprint with fake blood and such.
For the Body A basic T-Shirt and Boxers can work(Once again not warm)and for the torso use pretty much the same method but remeber for a shirt of latex you will have to put in a flap, a seem of velcrow or a zipper and slip it on the way Steve took off the ducktape shirt in the dummy ep and the head your just goona have to play and you should rewatch the IM ep's, Possesed, Wolf and Swamp thing , Those ep's should help with the head and allso listen to wescog aswell, Some of the time at least...lol:D
And shoes/feet Will be the easyist part I'm willing to bet, socks with papermache and laytex , Socks with laytex, Hell socks simply painted the same color as the rest of the suit would work!
And don't for get to put less laytex arount the joints, it is important I'm willing to bet that you want to be able to move!, and allso to add to the mask Idea you could make it look like the actors eyes are covered(make it so he/she can still see!) and place fake eyes on the sides of the head to give it a more segmented look.
And There goes my creative drive for the day, wave bye to it all, BYE BYE!!
...:D

I was hoping that Indy Mogul could help me make up an actor as a really cool semi-realistic Snake Man. Thanks.

Merged this into another thread on basically the same topic.
