My advice - contact a professional tech expert before touching your affected computer any more.
Someone with more knowledge may be able to fix the virus / recover files ?
I hope so...

I've had a hard drive collapse on me - different, I know - but soul destroying. I am so sorry.:'(

...what did you actually DO to download a trojan? The only way I could see that happening was you downloading an executable file.

Which is just stupidity.

Relax, your videos should still be on your hard drive. If worst comes to worst, there's companies that can retrieve files off your hard drive.

I've used these people: www.support.com (http://www.support.com/home). They were really good. They didn't fix my issue, but I was able to fix it with the knowledge they gave me. Best thing is, if they don't fix it, no charge. Good luck.

That's normally fairly safe, lol.

Parker,,, go to bitdefender.com.... they have an online virus program that will really
help. I will probably take half a day ( or night, run it while you sleep ), but it is an
excellent virus killing program they use. I really hope you get your vids back bro.

I'd suggest you get spybot and avast (which was linked to earlier). Fully update the two and turn on their resident systems (the thing that stays on all the time to block virus downloads - it's saved my comp a couple times when my brother went on it). Then restart the computer - don't run any scans yet.

Hit F8 as the computer is starting back up (it'll be at the first black screens that come up when the comp turns on) - just keep pressing it, since you probably don't know exactly where you're supposed to. A screen will come up with options for your startup (safe mode without networking is the one you want). Once you open up in safe mode, run avast and then spybot (run them separate - one after the other) - it'll take a long time (run them in their most expansive setting - all files/full scan). That should bring up everything, so delete them after the scan finishes.

Then restart the computer normally and see if it helped at all.

If it can still run and restart (even with a ton of spyware/malware/viruses) then try the setup I posted. It should clear out most (if not all) of that stuff - it'll at least buy you time by getting rid of everything but the real big trojan viruses (which will take a little time to come back)

What video converter did you download? And what kind of computer are you using? And are you sure it's dead?

In all seriousness... take a deep breath.
Switch off.
Get pro help with the computer.
Come back fighting!

I know how I felt when I lost stuff... it's heartwrenching... but you can come back from it.

And with help, either from following guidelines here or getting someone in, you may find that you haven't lost your stuff!

Google Hitman Pro V2, download it on a computer that is NOT infected put it on a flash drive then boot it on the infected computer. My dad is a computer wiz he fixes them for a living. This is what he used on mine when it got screwed over (although I hadn't lost anything). It's incredible. It downloads a shitload of antivirus/spyware programs and scans with them. This way very few things can slip through the cracks but it takes like ten ours to do it. But it's not like you could be doing anything on the infected computer anyways right?

Speaker, just calm down for a sec - what has happened, has happened. Try the safe mode/virus scans (spybot and avast), then tell us how it worked out. It should fix the virus problem or at least get you to a point that you can recover your files and move on. Good luck.

thats a great idea. Why didn't i think of destroying the amount of resources my computer has avalible.

1 anti virus does a better job then 2.

Dont beleve me?
It can scan files faster since there isnt 2 programs trying to ram head to get reousrces to run them

No problem, I'd hate to see anyone lose their files. Plus your a good kid and it would suck to have to miss a week of your tutorials.

Edit: Also after this is fixed, I would recommend getting your parents to invest in Spyware Doctor (http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/?ref=afl_nenextech) it's what I use to monitor my computer and it's pretty damn good. If you can't convince them to buy it at least install their free version. It's not as good obviously but it works rather well.

get a mac...lolWindows based computers don't have issues like this unless you do something wrong (download things you shouldn't be, going to questionable sites and clicking random links, etc.). After doing this once, Speaker will probably never come across this bad of a viral problem again (always download, not run, things you want from the net and run a scan on it before you ever allow it to run). If you have a decent virus scanner/resident protector (avast + spybot will do just fine, unless you've already trashed the comp) then you will have to put in some effort to have any major issues.

Ehh. That's not really true. It's because they run on Unix, which is harder to write viruses for.

Harder does not mean impossible. The small market share just makes writing viruses (and putting through more effort) low on the totem pole of effectiveness. Why put through all the effort to find an exploit if only a few people will get it before it's found and patched for (so that you have to go and find a new exploit)?

speekerphone have you by any chance read the 'Halfway blown off terminator face' thread and followed the youtube link the gone to www. thedarkpower .com, because that website seems to have a virus imbeded in on of its pages.

The virus is 'Trojan-Downloader.JS.Psyme.acj' luckily for me it was instantly blocked by zonealarm pro, possibly you could try the free version of zonealarm once you have sorted out your computer.
