Hello I was wondering if if anyone knew how I could fake using weed. I read the cig thread but I looking for something better. My actors are under age so smoking anything is out of the qestion. I was just wondering maybe they could pretend to smoke on set then composite smoke afterward?

You could film them putting crushed up oregano or green tea in a zig-zag paper.

For the smoke, it would just be easier for them to light it and hold it. Get an adult to puff it for you between takes to keep it burning and smoking.

Like Wes said, oregano or green tea is good if you are showing it unsmoked.

If they are just smoking a joint, get some rolling papers (available most anywhere cigarettes are sold) and roll with tobacco, or fake tobacco. There was a whole thread on fake cigarettes (http://forum.indymogul.com/showthread.php?t=288&highlight=cigarettes) a while back.

I don't know who your referring to by "Shitty movies" If your talking about are FRIDAYNIGHTFRENZ videos...Then I can agree but this film has nothing to do with them.

yeah composting smoke could work. and i was outside in my backyard burning a bond fire with friends, and we burned some leaves from a tree from my woods. It smelled exactly like weed, we were confused. But that doesn't help much at all, just thought i'd share

Seth Rogen jokingly said they used real weed. My guess is they smoked tobacco and a prop guy made the fake weed.

They used the fake weed you can get from High Times magazine (You can get said publication from just about any bookstore. I see it all the time at Barnes and Noble.)

You can get herbal cigarettes which are used in stage productions. I'm not sure where exactly you buy them (haven't been in a show that called for them) but a google search will probably help you there. There may be some that look like joints. If not, you could just wrap the cigs up in rolling paper. You can light them and have your actors pretend to smoke them convincingly without inhaling. The stuff smells nasty, though. Like stale incense.

Yea, you can get "Legal High" smoking stuff, it's like a blend of Catnip and a bunch of other herbs.

It has the same color and consistency as Marijuana, but no THC, although you don't want to breath it into your lungs regardless.

I smoked some of that stuff a while back and it was the lamest thing in the world. I guess it would be functional to film with if you wanna do a weed shot legally, but it doesn't get you high like the ads say.

I know that doesn't help anyone, but its just a sidebar.

Seth Rogan is a real stoner, but Judd Apatow (who produced it) is very against pot. I'm not sure why he'd make a movie that is a string of pot jokes in that case... but oh well.

Seth doesn't smoke weed anymore. The weed that they use in the films is the fake chronic found on the back of High Times magazines.

catnip looks exactly like it, thats what we've used... use catnip or tea for any close ups but dont actually smoke it... not good bedfellows...

you dont atually have to smoke any of it, just smoke it like you smoke a cigar, and keep the smoke in your mouth

and to all the cool kids who say to use the 'real deal' thats murder for your production... your actors start doing a crappy job, not to mention how expensive it gets

Not to mention what happens if the Fuzz happens to cruise by and sees a bunch of 14 year olds toakin' it up in someones front yard.

You're all going to Juvie, and your parents houses are going to get raided, and when you get out of Juvie you're going to foster homes.

Maybe in Quebec In Ontario it's hit and miss - sometimes they'll let it go, sometimes you get a big juicy fine. Sometimes your mom has to bail you out of jail and that counts as your birthday AND christmas present! (Yeah my brother is an idiot.)

I don't touch the stuff though, so I don't really care.

helllo again I have a big problem. I put the tea into a cigar took out the tobacco first. Then lit it. The Effect was good but the problem was the horrorable smell. The location I'm filming me prohibits the smell of smoke to be left in the house. What should I do? I'm trying all my best TO AVIOD USING CGI SMOKE!!!! Should I have a lid off camera stoping the smoke from rising!!! I need help fast!! thank you.
