Sam Jackson in a Frank Miller directed graphic novel?
Should I just hand them over my money NOW?
also, the trailer reminds me ALOT of "Watchmen"

I've only read a couple of issues of the Spirit (they're really good, you should read them)
but so far the movie shows promise, although it seems to have a slightly darker tone than the comics. Also, where is commissioner Dolan? It mentions a Dolan, but it's a girl.
Does anybody know if there was a female Dolan in the comics?

I'm surprised there's little talk about The Spirit anymore.
Perhaps The Spirit should run for president or allow gays to marry?

So just went and saw The Spirit with high expectations but I was extremely disappointed. Overall it was extremely boring, and drug on way too much. They tried to be funny some of the time but it was actually really stupid. The only part I actually liked the style in which it was shot. Other than that I would go as far as to say it was the worst movie I've seen this year.

I watched about a half hour of it today during my break. Stay away, don't expect this to be good just because it is Frank Miller. Don't get me wrong, he is a great cartoonist, but he should stay away from movies and writing screenplays.

I just got back from it. I'll post a review later.

I was disappointed as well. I was expecting an awesome story (which it could have been) but it failed me. I did like the stylistic aspect of it though.

what exactly is so bad about it. I really wanted to see it and people are telling me not to take it seriously. If you don't take it seriously is it still good?

I expected it to be terrible, and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't that terrible. It's watchable, but not good.

Here's my review:
It's weird. I know that Frank Miller has been spiraling into insanity. Just read All Star Batman and Robin for evidence("DAMN YOU AND YOUR LEMONADE!"). Watching The Spirit gives me even more evidence for this conjecture.
The basic plot is...The Spirit is good. The Octopus is bad. Octopus wants to be immortal. Spirit wants to kill him all kinds of dead. That's really it.
I have to say that I really liked this one. Hear me out: I go to movies to see big guns, pretty ladies and funny one-liners. The Spirit has all of these in spades. Yes, a lot of the acting is cheesy. Yes, Spirit tends to talk into the camera. Me and my friends had a blast watching it, just because Samuel L. Jackson was so ridiculous. It's not great, but not so bad it's good. I'm gonna give it 3.5 Octopi out of 5.

Looks horrid. Frank Miller has been pretty much inserting various characters into Sin City and calling it a day for years -- I'm not going to watch it.
I think it's disrespectful to Eisner. If Miller wanted to make Sin City 2, he should've made it.

damn, I should have listen to all the negitive reviews from you guys. I didn't like it, although I think it will find it's audience. People who like classic 40's crime movies might appreciate it. Idk i just didnt love it. The only thing that kept me in my seat was the visuals, samuel L jackson and his one liners (He don't like eggs on his face) and eva mendas had a quick nude shot. 5/10
