Blender question

I have a question on how to connect gus's head from blender. Heres the page- http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Your_First_Animation_in_30_plus_30_Minutes_Part_I
And go down to where they are connecting the head... I draged the verticeis to the body but when I subsurfed it didn't do the whole thing... just the head. Plz help me?

Then the head needs to be in the same object as the body

Yes, you add the cube when you are in Edit mode.

I did but when I right click on the cube it's by itself and not with itself and the body.

Right click on the body while in Object mode.

Is the body and the head highlighted in purple when you do that or is it just the body?

After you have the body selected, go into edit mode. The hit spacebar and add the cube.
