I just finished my video project and would really like to upload to Youtube, but it's 1 gb.
That's over the limit for Youtube videos...
Is there any way I can safely compress it smaller so I can upload it to Youtube without losing any of the video or audio quality???
Thanks!:)

This is a GREAT tutorial on what you could export your video as for your YouTube copy.

Do you think if I re-saved it to those details shown in the tutorial, the file might be small enough to upload (and look great)?

Looking great and YouTube don't really go together.

You can make it look as good as possible, follow his advice and it'll look just like his stuff, which is pretty good.
Moving the contrast, the brightness, up a little bit, and following his advice will make the videos look as good as possible.

I tried a free trial for "Shrink and Burn" by Ashampoo and it works great no matter what program you're using to make the video. Basically just tell it what size you want the file and it shrinks it for you. I got it from downloads.com (though a google search would probably take you there, too)

I would recommend, putting it into youtube size, and putting it into mpeg-4 format.. and if it is still to big. then put into parts. like three parts or something. But as for not losing quality, that is really hard to do with youtube, as it automatically reformats it into there own format and no matter what you upload in, it will be dropped dramatically.

The Quicktime h.264 codec seems to do a pretty good job of compressing video for internet streaming. This should come as a standard option in most editing software, and you can use Quicktime Pro to export videos into the format if that's easier. Either way, you'll wind up with a decent quality .mov file that won't be too large for youTube's 100MB limit.
