Brains coming out of my head with Liquid Latex? (Halloween costume question!)

Hey guys!

I'm happy to be posting here and hopefully getting more involved with the forum. Indy Mogul is my favorite podcast.

Anyways-

I recently went out Saturday night to some halloween parties with a blood splattered head. It looked pretty cool (i thought). I got some liquid latex and dumped a bit on the back of my head. Then spread some more liquid latex out onto some plastic and bunched it up to make a brain and stuck it to the still went liquid latex (that slowly got caked into my hair.)

This was a bad idea. No wait. It was a REALLY STUPID IDEA. Because liquid latex...caked in my hair...was...difficult. Insanely difficult to get out. (I found out that baby oil and lots of time worked. I wrote all about it here: http://riggedproductions.com/bobbyblog/?p=224)

ANYWAYS, is there a better way to do this? I can make the brain with liquid latex, but how do I attach it to my hair? Is spirit gum a better solution or worse?

Your method, done to a wig instead of your own hair.

Left-field idea: Hair stylists sometimes use these rubber caps with holes in them to do highlights - they pull little tufts of hair through the cap with a small tool like a crochet hook. If you made a curved "bald, wounded region" appliance out of latex & pierced it with similar holes, you could anchor it to your head by pulling similar tufts of hair through the appliance. This would be very slow to get on, and probably not a lot of fun to get off (after rinsing out the stage-blood, starting from the edges, grasp the tufts of hair on head-side of the appliance hair and draw them back out of the appliance) but it would be your own hair.

NO SPIRIT GUM IS JUST AS BAD TRUST ME...I HAD TO ACTUALLY CUT SOME OF MY HAIR OFF...now that that is done, soak a colluflower in some red dye, or use one of indy moguls other brain ideas, and then try to use a hair clip to connect it . then add some fake blood and voila(wah-la) you have a brain

You could use a bald cap. Cut the bald cap into kind of an outline around your head, and cut out everything except the edges of the bald cap, and the section where the "brain" is going to be coming out.

Well stretch the outline of the bald cap around the head, and hide it under your hairline with some liquid latex and make-up.

THEN, build the "BRAIN" texture on top of the segment you didn't cut out.

The Orange is all the parts that isn't cut out, do you get the basic idea?

You have one segment on the top that you don't mess with, and have two strips extending off of it so it stays suspended in the middle with no adhesive.

And since it latex, it bends easy, and is easy to hide under your hair. You can also cut some slits in the strip and pull some hair through to get it to look more natural.

But you build up the brain texture on the back, lots of fake blood, and get your hair mushed around it to cover up the edges.

Ooof, latex in the hair... that's rough. I work with latex a lot and it gets in my arm hair occasionally, so I definitely know your pain.
As for your problem, I'd suggest making your brain separately and then using bobby pins to attach it to your hair. If you're careful you can arrange your hair to hide the way it is attached, and with liberal application of blood it could look pretty great.

and to get liquid latex out of your hair in such a manner that sidesteps cancerous chemicals, soak your hair in mineral oil or oil of olay cold cream and sit and watch a movie. otherwise use straight lacquer thinner and be prepared to moistuize and condition your hair for a few months straight.

reminds me of time i used wood glue for my mohawk in 9th grade (1991). i had to take one long-ass shower after that maneuver.

hahah, o man. When I was young I convinced my uncle to buzz cut a mohawk with a T in the back of my head. I ended up just buzz cutting my whole head once my parents found out.
