Does anyone know how I can create special effects in Sony Vegas? Such as explosions and lasers and whatnot.

If you made them yourself they wouldn't look that hot.
What you do is you download them from Detonation films, then you overlay them onto your footage, which can be done in Vegas, or for that matter any program that allows for multiple layers of footage.

Then just get rid of the black back ground, but yep.

Like what? Incorporate Detonation Films footage? Or make your own?
Because like I said, if you make your own, it'll most likely be a lot of work for sub-par material.
Go with detonation films, if you need helps keying it in, I can do that.

there are two simple ways to remove the background.
one use a chroma key and select that black. adjust the levels and it should look okay.
otherwise, mess the the track settings. you can set individual tracks to add, mulitply, subtract, overlay, etc... one of these should work nicely.

Have you read my "Ghost Effect" tutorial on the blog? I give step-by-step instructions on how to key something out.
Just use those instructions, but key out the background to the explosion.
