I was just thinking recently of making a full latex mask of my friend, and I was wondering if i could just make like a plaster mold of his face and paint liquid latex into that??? but then comes the problem of getting the mask to go around the rest of the head.... how could i make it so that it would cover my face head and neck??? Also open to tips on painting the mask to make it look realistic

oh and also, i noticed that the liquid latex that I found said it was harmful to eyes because it contained ammonia... does this still apply once it is dry???
thanks

Liquid latex is not for making the type of mask that you find in the store. SOmeone correct me if I'm wrong but it is more of a suto-skin that you attached to your skin so that it mimicks your facial movements (IE your mouth movements and such as why store boughts don't). And I don't know why you would want to pour liquid latex in someones eyes... Or cover their eyes with latex as the person wouldn't be able to see!

I believe foam latex is the material used with the Freddy Krueger mask. So you might want to use foam latex. But obviously get some books and dvds on how to do full bust castings first.

You can make a mask like you would get in the store with normal liquid latex, you just need A LOT of it because you need to layer it, in fact, the mask tutorial I am doing Wednesday is going to deal with Biohazards original question.

Scott, I don't think it's within most peoples' budget or skill level to do foam latex. As you may already know, foam latex requires a lot of different hazardous chemicals as well as a mixer and a high-capacity convection oven which are both dedicated exclusively to foam latex production. So you're looking at a few hundred dollars set-up. That seems a bit excessive for a mask if you ask me.
Normal casting latex would work fine in a plaster mold. WesScog is right, it'll take a while to do that sort of absorption casting but it'll do what it sounds like you want. As for being able to slip it on over the head and neck, you'll need to cut a seam into the back of it, which can then be sealed up once the mask is on your actor.
