Hello new people! I thought it would be nice to give you some tips and hints to success so that you will succeed around here!
Older members, feel free to post your own tips. They could be general rules of thumb or things that annoy you and you wish to stop before they start. Oh and give them links to threads that could help them out with different things.
1. SEARCH BEFORE YOU POST A NEW THREAD!!! look at the top of the page, see the grey bar starting with a link to your user CP? Well go to the left, and click search! If you have a short word type it like this EX: How* to** blow up** bubble wrap.
2. Help out as much as you can with what knowledge you have, if you don't know anything about the subject then it's usually best not saying anything at all. Of course you can always ask a question, but this leads to...
3. Search the internet before asking questions. "HOW DO I MAKE A LIGHTSABER IN AFTER AFFECTS?!!!" "Go to youtube and search..."
4. Don't whine, be a jerk, or annoying in general. That's mostly for me so I don't come through your computer screen and sock you in the head.
5. HAVE FUN!!!
6. If you want a script reviewed go to this thread (http://forum.indymogul.com/showthread.php?t=9591)

yeah guys, majority of the stuff you ask can be found on youtube or on other sites that give you tutorials. BUT if they are too expensive or you cant seem to find it anywhere, THEN you can put it up as a thread.
oh and this forum is not for fights or arguments, so please don't mistake critisism as an insult. i have learned my lesson

This is just a pet peeve that may not apply to everyone but,
Your opinion on things is just that, an opinion. NOT a fact. It could be a widely accepted opinion but it's still not a fact. EX: "I think The Godfather is the best movie ever." That's a fine opinion but...if someone disagree don't start debating it to death, like this.
EX: "I think The Godfather is the best movie ever."
"WHAT? That boring piece of crap?! No way is that better than The Dark Knight!"
"The Godfather was a classic, ahead of it's time, cinematic brilliance! The Dark Knight is just an above average comic movie."
"The Godfather sucks balls!"
"NO U!"
"NOOO THE GODFATHER AND U!"
Not exactly that stupid but you get the point. You can have respectable, logical debates, giving points and couter-points ect.

yes and the reason why we don't want you do to this is because it gives a horrible reputation for Indy Mogul. If someone were to come on here for the first time and see everyone fighting, he or she might have second thoughts about visiting and contributing their ideas. This forum is for film making and film making only. (and prop making, etc.) If you have any concerns or need help, this is the place to ask. this site is for you and everyone else to get help for films and acting and whatnot. so please, don't do the fighting here but somewhere else. but don't be afraid to talk about your opinions and your thoughts. and most important, please help other people! there will always be someone in need for something, whether its prop making or camera issues, they will need help. and if YOU know, don't be afraid to let them know! :)

Be constructive in your criticism of other people's work! There's a sticky about that here (http://forum.indymogul.com/showthread.php?t=3646). Really, just don't be a jerk.
Don't suggest Halo armour.

Don't post you and your friend laughing, and dancing around on your web cam and then call it a "Short Film"
Blogs tend to be a good means of sharing personal experiences which may not be relevant or pertinent to subjects in a forum. Our platform of choice is Tumblr (http://www.tumblr.com). Feel free to include a link to your blog in your signature!
Also you can post your blog here (http://forum.indymogul.com/showthread.php?t=4158), and find the blogs of other Mogulers.

^ Parker, try to think that your a good person instead of a bad person from now on, but still know that people may think that you're a annoying little kid, just leave for a few weeks and try to help make sure that you're acting you're age. and when you come back, people will (hopefully) give you a second chance! And then they'll forget about the old Parker (hopefully).

^^
Darn it! You stole mine!
Anyway,
1. Learn to use proper grammar. It makes you look idiotic if you start each post with 'lol or have a post only consisting of 'dunno'.
2. Each forum has a specific use. Don't post a new video in FX requests.
3. Don't steal effects and claim them to be your work. There was a guy called Sickness inc. who did this and he got banned rather fast.

If people don't post in your thread, don't wait 5 minutes and bump it. If it goes off the first page then you can give it a bump. But bumps still aren't the best thing to do.
And if no one replies then don't make another thread on it, I'd rather not see 5,000,000 "HELP ME WITH CUTTING SHEET METAL WITH PAPER!!!11!@h" threads in various sections and not one helpful reply to them.
If you're going to leave mogulville for something not interesting (a film festival, a disease, a world wide trip, ect.) then please don't make a thread saying that you're leaving. They usually end up badly. And PLEASE don't make one that says you're leaving because of some stupid reason, like you got bored so bye, or you got into an arguement over something insignificant with someone that resulted in nothing but flame wars (if it gets serious then ignore the user, or tell a mod.)

This is really a general rule of the internet but, since so few people care to follow it, I'll try again:
Do not feed the trolls
I repeat:
Do not feed the trolls
Trolls thrive on drama, controversy and negative attention. To respond to a troll thread, even to 'get' said troll with a sterling rebuttal, is giving them what they want.
