I've been trying out a system to make props of various slimy little monsters in jars using tin foil, sculpy, paint and lacquer. I've already made a cthulhu star spawn, I haven't bottled it yet, but I figure with another coat of lacquer and some murky water it'll look pretty realistic. I figure with the practice from that one I could make a decent tutorial.

Anyway, would you guys be interested in something like that?

Definitely, you can never have enough SFX tutorials. I'd love to see how you did it, I never know when i'll need an alien in a jar for a film.

That's great! People need to know how to make a thing in a jar!
I recently made a slug thing with teeth, it actually looked pretty realistic, but the sealant I used ate through the paint. I think I'll use epoxy gloss resin from now on.

You haven't by chance seen the movie The Kindred have you? Google search for the movie's poster and you'll see why I ask. Lots of slimy Cthulhu-esque creatures in jars.
I'm sure I speak for all of us here when I say I'd like to see pics of the finished prop.

Funny you bring up the subject of critters in jars...

I've been making mutant animal fetuses in jars, just as a fun little personal project... I might be able to contribute to a tutorial if you want.

Or, if you just wanna buy one from me, I'm selling them for $30 USD, just e-mail me at fogel.andrew@gmail.com for info.

Uhh the first word I saw was Sculpy, No sculpy is terrible!!
It can break easily, if you used it you know how delicate it can get when you take it outta the oven. Instead use "epoxy sculpt" It dries itself in 3 hours and it never breaks. No need for a small toaster now.

Well, it's not critters, but it is a head in a jar tutorial that is pretty creepy.

Edit: I knew I had one somewhere. It's not that great of a tutorial, but it might help:

Note: I did not create either tutorial, I just had the bookmarks..

Yes, regular Sculpy (the white stuff) is pretty brittle, Super Sculpy (kind of a pink color) is much better.

I'll have to try and find some Epoxy Sculpt. It looks interesting.
