Anyone got a simple makeup explanation on how to make cheek bones appear more prominent, a la Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.

Well, without the use of latex os prostetics? I would darken under the cheekbones with a light coat of makeup slightly darker than the actors skin. I would then lighten up above the cheeckbone since thats where the sunlight usually hits. Remember to be sparing on the makeup or it will look like crappy skeleton makeup for a Halloween party.

Put foundation to match your actors skin tone blended over the whole face and down the neck a bit. Have your actor suck in their cheeks (fish face) and lightly apply a foundation (or bronzer) one or two shades darker in the hollows - blend in the edges. Then have them do a big smile to pop out the apples of the cheeks - apply a lighter foundation (or neutral blush) to them and blend up toward the temple/hairline. I hope that helps!
EDIT: Make sure you match the skin TONE, not just the lightness/darkness. Otherwise your actor's face will come out looking too orange, or too pink.

Aryup. Anomalie nailed it right on the head. Darken the cheek area with bronzer and the cheeks will look hollowed.

Listen to Anomalie. I was hovering around the right idea, but she laid it out much more clearly. My makeup knowledge is very limited.

Well, I do have the advantage of being female and having to worry about this makeup stuff from time to time. :p I picked up a lot of this stuff through theatre/modelling, actually. If all else fails, sometimes the cosmetics ladies in the drug stores can help out (especially with matching skin tones and choosing which products you need). Be careful because a lot of bronzers have some kind of shimmer in them now.

Aye. You can't go wrong with Ben Nye. Believe it or not, I carry around a stick of eyeliner constantly for makeup. My friends laugh at me for it, but it's a really good solution so long as it's lightly applied and blended well into the face. It's more likely going to make you like sick than make your face look like it has naturally high cheekbones, but whatever floats 'yer boat.

It only really works if you have quite prominent cheek bones .
