Darn, I wont be able to make the zombie movie deadline.

I'll eventually submit my work to this show. Thanks for the theme list.

I can't make my film in time for the dating episode.

Does crime-stuff count as a "prison-film"?

It should be noted that these are the airdates which means they are due probably 10 days in advance!

So if we already submitted a zombie short and it wasn't chose this week, does it have a shot at being shown on the 30th?

BobbyMiller

There's only one zombie episode and it happens on the 30th so if you submit now it will be considered for that episode! This week is dating themed!

I guess it's a good thing I already submitted a Zombie short right after the first episode aired. RIGHT PLANT!?!

I should make an animated gif of "RIGHT PLANT?!"

I should make an animated gif of "RIGHT PLANT?!"
And 'my plant's f**king dead!' as well. That line was brilliant! :p

Was it always censored, though? I just watched it and it's bleeped out, but the first time I watched it I'm sure it was uncensored. Am I going crazy?

I totally would. I think you have a new catch phrase. To bad you killed off the plant in the second episode. If it was a spider plant you could have saved a single leaf and made a clone of it. Erik has Gary. Justin has, um, Steve. And you could have Plant.

are you always going to go with themes for the show?

BobbyMiller
10-08-2008, 06:47 PM
We're going to try to...only because it gives the show a focus. But, having said that I gather the themes will get kind of looser as we go on.

I think this was a great idea when it started. The "Theme" idea
I believe will really knock down the potential you had for
people submitting their films. I think it has put severe limitations
on the time to write and make movies where if there were no
classes or themes, many shorts that have been already being
worked on could have been submitted to you.

In my humble opinion, I think you took a great concept and
choked the potential right out of it.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for your honest feedback. Like I said, the themes idea is loose and we could easily do a themed episode called, "All the films in this have humans in it." We're not taking it too seriously and as others have pointed out, some times the themes are loose. For example, "Mysterious Box" was in the Nature themed episode and it was only because the film took place entirely outside. It had nothing to do with nature. But, it happened to be the funniest and cleverest short submitted that week by the indymogul.com community, so we made it work.

It's important to note that this show's main goal is to bring you the best short films in the world. It's not a competition site like filmfights.com where we name a theme and people go out and shoot a short based on it.

We originally weren't going to share with you the themes, because we thought it'd be a fun surprise, BUT we totally think if people know in advance they can send us theme-appropriate stuff and it helps out everyone.

Again, the themes are just a loose guideline to give the show some type of cohesiveness.

At the end of the day if we run across a short film that is SO GOOD IT MUST BE SEEN, we will put it in an episode as soon as we can, regardless of how closely it sticks to the theme.

Part of the joy of doing this show is finding shorts that haven't been seen by anyone on vimeo or youtube and exposing them to a much greater audience. So, as long as there are good short films...they'll be lots more shows regardless of theme!

The themes idea is a good one, but I disagree with letting us know in advance. If everyone submits what ever films they see fit, it would be easier for you to come up with a theme based on the submissions you receive. Special occasions are obviously the exception. With Halloween coming up, requesting zombie flicks is perfect. If you have such an occasion coming up, give the Mogulers like a months notice to submit. Other than that, you should only reveal the theme after you're already put the episode together.

Good to know. Guys continue to comment about this, I definitely want to know everyone's thoughts.

Both our shortfilms "Heavy Metal Zomies" and "Beerbottle From Hell" would fit into either one or both of the categories "splatter" and "zombies". But I'm not sure if we're allowed to submit 'em if they've already been featured in 5MMH.

If there'll be categories like "cyborgs" or "bad dance moves" in the future, too, we might be able to submit our new shortfilm "Metal Man" as well. But it'll still take some weeks until that flick is ready... ;)

How do I submit my zombie short? http://vimeo.com/1767445

It's not really like film fights. But, once in a while we'll let you know of a theme in case you have something you want to submit.

Oh, Tub...

I never got enough money to make that film and I also think I never quite figured out the script. So, I never made it.

Perhaps one day.

One day.

Yeah, knowing in advance kind of kills the suspense. I was eagerly waiting to see if my submitted film fit this past week's theme and even though it didn't, it kept me interested.

Knowing in advance just kinda makes me go "oh, I'll have to watch that cleverly themed Halloween special at some point." Not that there's anything wrong with specials. Lol. It's just now I know my previously submitted film won't fit any themes for the rest of the month.
