Bobby has a whole album?

It's not a full length album. An "EP" as they say...

I'm surprised someone actually liked it. It's kinda bitter and weird though. Not all of it is as light hearted as my usual stuff.

RAM, what song (if any) did you particularly like? I've always wanted to make a music video for one of the songs.

Oh, PS. it's at: www.thebmillproject.com
There's a lot of language and some sex-related stuff in it, so if you aren't down with that...be warned.

I was going through some serious girl problems at the time I recorded it last year.

It's kinda bitter and weird though.

Thats an understatement. To be completely honest, I dug the first track, and lost it after that. The last track redeemed it a bit. It kinda like some one took the angst of Billy Corgan, the spoken-word style rap of early Eminem, the unused refrences from Weird Al's song book, and a midi keyboard and stuck it in a blender.

Maybe fun wasn't quite the right word. More like satirical perhaps. It reminded me a bit of flight of the conchords. 'Pretty girl problems' is probably one of the best but I havent listened to it in a few days. Plus your site is expired and I don't have it downloaded on the computer I'm currently using. Your voice really suits the type of music you make.

I think some of the synth sounds you used could really be improved upon. I'd be happy to give you a bit of advice. Just drop me an email.

In the meantime, you guys can get the album by going here:

I'm gonna put this on the next album as a quote:

"some one took the angst of Billy Corgan, the spoken-word style rap of early Eminem, the unused refrences from Weird Al's song book, and a midi keyboard and stuck it in a blender."

Ok, I listened to your EP Bobby. I'm not really a fan of that kinda music, but I know there are fans. Maybe add some guitar solos in the future? :)

Hey Johnny,

Yeah. I'm really not a musician. I just kinda fake it on my keyboard.

I wish I could play guitar..

Or keyboard for that matter.

Well this is just a big discussion about bobby's ep now...but anyway. Bobby: you really don't need to be the greatest musician in the world to make great songs. You just need to be a great writer. You have some really good ideas, they just need to be worked on a bit.

I can play guitar, mandolin, bass and piano. But I sure as hell don't play them on every song I've ever worked on. An example: I can't play drums but I once made an album with an artist who didn't have a drummer. I just programmed all of the drums using midi. It was tedious, but if done right it can sound brilliant. Plus it's really hard to find a drummer who can play well, never mind in time.....but thats another discussion entirely.

The main thing is to learn your tools: play all the midi parts. It'll give everything the right feeling. Just go along and quantise it after. If you do it right you'll maintain the original feel, but the timing will be much better (without making it sound like it was played by a robot).

To be honest I think one of the worst things you could do would be to add guitar solos (or any other solos for that matter) to your songs. Your songs feel more rhythm oriented and the lyrics are key. They aren't power metal songs. I'd only suggest a solo if it's meant as a cliche but even that wouldnt fit with any of those songs.

And remember the main thing: have fun!

Thanks RAM for the words of wisdom! And guys, if you dig this music or the side projects I do outside of the show, be sure to follow me on tumblr or sign up for my email list on my website: www.thebobbymiller.com

// END PLUG.

Yeah, I play all the parts on that stuff with my midi keyboard and garageband. God, I love Gargeband!

I only make music because of how fun and immediate it is. It's really satisfying and I'm jealous of real musicians because in all honesty, it's the truest art form. You can make someone feel something with a few notes...but it takes a filmmaker 2 hours.

Anyways you guys make me want to work on another EP. I've been kicking around some stuff. Here's a (another) song about facebook I started: http://tinyurl.com/68mfjf
Caution the F bomb is in fact, dropped.

Also: Steve Nelson is working on an EP, not sure if it's done yet. I told him we should do an Indy Mogul Film Festival and have a music act beforehand with us doing some songs. Maybe one day!

Well to be honest, from someone who works primarily with music: filmmaking is pretty damned impressive. Of course I'm into the whole audio production end as well so I guess that gives me a greater appreciation for the art of filmmaking. But they both link together really nicely.

Just listened to the new song: You write really weird songs bobby... :)
A suggestion perhaps: I know the you're playing the stuff yourself, but it seems to me that the piano part at the start could be really melodic instead of the chords. Maybe a really dark sound in a minor key and then change it all with the 'breakdown' lyric.
Seems like the song could almost be a satirical ballad.

Haha, an IndyMogul Film festival with a music act before could be cool. Or do an 'IndyMogul' EP.
