View Full Version : 3ds Max - animated bump maps?

If anyone uses 3ds Max, I'd really like to hear your input on this.

I've been working on a large 3d sequence for the last few days. I got the render out and previewed it and it was mostly good except for one thing: The bump map seemed to jump around the place, like when you 'evolve' fractal noise - it jumped all around the model.

I wondered if it might not be a noise map applied to the model. I turned off the bump mapping in the material options, and the issue was gone. Not the noise map. The problem has to be coming from the bump map. I could settle with no map, but I think it adds something important to the sequence. So, then, my question is this: Is there some sort of option to evolve a bump-map that I've overlooked? Is there any way I can turn this off? I've created a preview of the bump-map, and it looks pretty static to me.

A final, possibly important, consideration: The models are animated via the use of a particle system. I'm not sure if there's some option in the particle window that I've overlooked which would give rise to this.

Thank you.
