Hey guys- I'm making my birthday list and wonder what you guys think the bare essentials are for a filmmaker(spirit gum, latex, nose putty) What else do you guys think I need( inexpensive)

Do you want a makeup kit, or film equipment?
I would say the bare essentials are a camcorder, computer, editing software, tripod, tapes, camera bag, decent microphone, and some work lights. That's what you need to actually film, then you will need props, costumes, makes up, etc. depending on your current project.

So you think an external mic is a good investment?

Imagination, and some magic.

And external mic is an excellent investment. Good sound is one of the most important parts of a film.

I can forgive a film that looks bad, as long as it has good sound. So I think an external mic, and a digital recorder is more or less one of the best things you can get for your film.

-A script

-Lighting(Can be a simple as a collection of lights from your house or as hard as a DIY light kit)

-Editor(Free or expensive,if you need it done,you need it done)

-Get toy guns which are most realistic(ignore the colour)and paint them black

-If you're into make up films(zombies),get liquid latex(school glue might do),nose putty(chewing gum),spirit gum and cream make up(red,black etc)

-Fake Blood(Make it or buy a load after Halloween when they're the cheapest)

-Props(Swords,guns,armor,time machines etc)

-Sound Effects

-Royalty Free Music( flashkit.com/loops )

-External Microphone
