(I did a search and couldn't find a thread for this)
Anyone pick up Fallout 3? I ordered it from Amazon and it came yesterday...amazing. Currently I'm Level 7 and in Georgetown, killing Super Mutants left and right.

I want it. :(
I've heard really good things (work at a game store) and I loved the other games. This one sounds really awesome.

I got fallout, played for like seven hours straight, then put it down for resistance 2. And resistance is just the best game i've ever played. It had my heart pumping while i was playing it, it is that good.

resistance 2 is not that good (my own opinion)
i was at a friends playing it the other night
and i found there isn't anything special about it
it feels like COD with the iron sight
and kind of looks like duke nukem or doom
fallout 3 is better
left for dead is going to be epic
and codwaw is going to be crazy with the new zombie mode

ZOMG! I got this game on launch... all I have to say is that its great. Beat it twice, and found almost everything, but its quite a time consuming game, and shouldnt be treated negatively. GOTY hopefully.

You beat a game with 100hrs of Gameplay, twice? Already?

You can beat the main mission in like 10 hours, everything else isn't really necessary.

But its fun!
I mean, who wants to buy a great game, and beat it right away.
Good games must be savoured

Fallout 3 is pretty good. I was terrified for the future of the series after it was announced to be on the Oblivion engine, but I think they've managed to eke out a respectable entry in the series.
Moreso than just gameplay though, I was impressed by the use of Americana -- like they decided to relate the formation of a new society to the formation of the United States. The decision to use Washington D.C. as the setting was inspired. The Republic of Dave? Hilarious.
Convincing the Button Gwinett robot that you're Thomas Jefferson is just ingenious.
Didn't like the ending, though. The degree of freedom characteristic of a Fallout game was harmed, I think, by Bethesda's desire to make an epic fantasy. And why the hell can't I kill children? There better be a mod soon, as those little buggers are asking for it.

Yup. I loved killing kids and primary characters (Aradesh was asking for it) in the original Fallout.

I loved the feel of the previous Fallout games (still haven't completed any tho.)
Am thinking about getting a PS3 for the Blu-Ray, so I might get Fallout 3 if I end up going down that route...
So how free are you to roam in F3 ?

It's a pretty big game world, and you can put off the main quest for a pretty long time.

Still an RPG. I didn't say "Don't do the extra missions", it's just most people who've beaten it that i've talked to have not played every single side quest.

but of course my friend ruined his account by naming his character Eduardo and making him have 0 intelligence and 10 strength. lol

Does having 0 intelligence make it so you can't really talk to anyone with anything other than grunts, like in the other two Fallout games? I got at midnight on launch day, but haven't found the time to beat it with finals. Then again, I probably would've beaten it awhile ago if I stuck with the main quest, but I sort of want to do all of them.

intelligence helps with talking and stuff like disarming the nuke
and other stuff
they go over it in the manual

Alas, no. They couldn't deal with a whole new dialog tree. Voice-acting, you see.

I was playing it for a good while but I had to put it down and get moe focused on working round my house and not playing video games.
It really is a great game tho, there's alot to do and if your like me you'll probably spend the first few hours just exploring. I haven't touched it in a while tho but when I have the free time I'll go back to it.

Yeah, like wes said, you can beat it pretty quick. I beat it in 23 hours. I wasn't really exploring that much, and I only did a few side quests. I'm playing it again differently now.

I've got Fallout 3 now (a bit behind everyone but the January sales went my way!!!)
Nice, nice game! I used to do the whole 'pen and paper' RPG stuff in the 80s and this is the closest thing to capturing that 'epic' feeling I used to have. There's enough scope and choice to carve a very individual path...
It's not as gory as I thought it would be - although the head shots are just plain stupid - both gratuitous and hilariously cartoonish at the same time (should I laugh or spew ?). Anyhow, I'm not playing to splash the red mash... I'm in it for the bobblehead hunt. ;)
Is Oblivion similar ? I had the Elder Scrolls 3 for the XBOX and it just seemed too free, with no sense of mission or purpose anywhere... F3 seems to have got the balance juuust right, so if Oblivion is similar, I'll buy that 'n all!

Yeay! Vaughn! I've been out the loop for a while - hope you're well and finding the space to do what ya gotta do!
Yeah... same designers - but the Xbox (NOT 360 BTW) Elder Scrolls 3 to me just had no... drive... it felt like I was dumped off a ship and told to hang out wherever... I spent ages wandering around like a saddo, seeing lots of beautiful landscapes and occasionally hitting a beasty - the 'main mission just felt uninspiring to me... whereas F3 has a main mission that seems to have more depth. Ironically, I'm finding myself exploring as much as I did in Elder Scrolls but I'm more engaged because there's a better sense of overarcing story that I know will pull me in when I get bored...
...and it has to be said that the Xbox Elder Scrolls had a rubbish system of controls.
Now if Oblivion is more 'Fallout' and less ES3 then I'll give the franchise another go...

It's a fantastic game, to be sure, but I think it would have been cool to be able to use salvaged parts to build makeshift motorcycles, dune buggies, etc (in true post-apocalyptic fashion). After all, Elder Scrolls had horses you could ride, so why not? It certainly would have made exploration more fun, not to mention being able to get places more quickly without having to quick-travel.

Ah yeah... quick travel is a bit of a cheat... but getting places on foot is just... oh... soooooo cool in a post apocalypse stylee. I get really into the mood - I've got a high sneak skill, a sniper rifle and a pistol with silencer for the 'close-up work'. I sneak everywhere and VAT for the head every time - not for the goo, but for the quick takedown... erm... gotta go and play some more!

VATS was a brilliant idea. I personally love walking in the game, because you see so much. I frequently find myself going "That house looks cool I'll investigate." or "What about that garage?" Or "I wonder if I can knife that Yao Guai"
It is a truly great game.

VATS is great in a firefight, but I prefer free-aiming most of the time.
I find that sneaking and The Terrible Shotgun go together wonderfully.

Yeah... but there's nothing like firing off a few silenced bullets long range and seeing someone in a gang of raiders crumple to the floor - and the rest of the gang are clueless as to where the bullets are coming from... I hear the terrible shotgun is a monster... but I get in quietly - I get out quietly...

The Terrible Shotgun is okay. I like Lincolns Repeater more. I go in silently, dispatch a few guards. Then pop out of nowhere, guns blazing.

True, but think about this: Being vehicles that you have built, you'd be able to put all kinds of nasty weaponry on them. Can you imagine zipping through a horde of super mutants with a pair of buzzsaws on the back of your hog? It would open all kinds of epic possiblities for VATS!
All I'm saying is that such a feature would have been really cool.
