These cover ever layer of production, and are actually quite informative if you're looking for a specific topic:

Story Structure (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/15)
How to write the script (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/16)
Sound (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/17)
Lighting (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/18)
Cinematography (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/19)
Basic Props and Effects (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/20)
Editing (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/1)
Dealing with Rejection (http://acceptable.tv/tutorial/2)

The final one isn't necessary applicable to effects, BUT it can help you stay focused and keep creating, even if your short doesn't turn out to be the next "Numa Numa".

Very cool! Our friend Dave Seger made the podcasts for Acceptable, and also worked on the show.

Yup, I worked on Acceptable.TV and for Channel 101.

Those tutorials are awesome. There was supposed to be an acting tutorial too, but it was never produced. I'll see if I can track down the script for it. Bad acting is something amateur videos are constantly plagued with.

This is the best tutorial I have ever read, by Dan Harmon:
Story Structure 106: Five Minute Pilots (http://www.channel101.com/articles/article.php?article_id=29)

Short and sweet, and the perfect formula for a good little movie or episode.

I have now joined the Indy Mogul forums.

I didn't really get much out of these.

Their story structure part wasn't really true to be not all stories return to the original state. Were those eight qualities serious? They should have just stuck with the classic Exposition, Rising action, Climax, falling action.

Its' the basic Hero's Journey cycle.

Almost no Myths don't follow that story, and most story's can be structured in that way, and it's just a vague structure to help you out, not something to live by.

And this is a less vague structure, it gives you more guidance than simply "Rising Action", Whats Rising action? Where do I get rising action?

While moving out of your stationary situation, it's got a better flow to it I think.

The rest of the shorts are awesome I think for people interested in film making who are just starting out. They really show you how to tighten things up, and how the process works.

The thing you also have to keep in mind is that this was written for Acceptable TV and Channel 101 submissions - meaning that people were making shorts with the intent of having them become a regular series.

And as far as most television shows go, a return to the original situation is a fairly typical resolution. But you're right in that this model doesn't fit as easily into a three act feature model, but that's the whole thing with models, they're just guides - nowhere near the last word on story structure.
