I used one while working for recording the football games at my HS. I like it a lot, although I loathe miniDV, If I were to use it, that camera would be my choice.

Great camera!

Im looking at cameras like that for when i get older, why did you choose that over something like an fx7 or dvx100b. I would love to know thanks!

Also do you have any test footage?

3 things were very important to me when buying the camera.

Longevity, affordability, manual controls, and 24p.

Thats why...:)

I can get 24p and manual controls, but the HDR-FX7 is HiDef and 1,500 bucks cheaper

This is a promo for a church i am currently working for. It was shot on an Xh-A1 and edited in final cut.

It took me about 3 days to put it together!

feedback would be wonderful!

PS. The quality on vimeo doesn't nearly capture the beauty of the raw footage.

The XHA1 is Hi-def as well. But the FX7 lacks 24P functionality.

And the XH-A1 isn't full Hi-Def either.

Unless you're recording straight onto a hard drive.

I was talking about the FX7. It lacks 24P.As well as the XH-A1. It shoots in 24F instead. Which is similar, but I don't know the exact differences between the two.

Well, it is 24P, but it just gets there in a slightly different way.

The way I understand it is that it has interlaced sensors, and it extrapolates a progressive image from the interlaced sensors.

So it records motion very similar to how native 24P cameras do, but not identical in every circumstance.

It's good enough for film-out, Crank 2 is shooting almost exclusively on the XH-A1, and it looks awesome on the trailer.

Well it IS, I mean technically anything that records HDV is going to give you a non-square pixel aspect ratio.

But you're right, to get the full resolution you've got to output to an external capture device.

Yes it is. 1920x1080 sensors, just records to 1440 on tapes. If you use HD/SDI (G1 only) you get 1920. I think you can hook up a firestore to the A1 for 1920 also.
