And Gus Van Sant is an absolutely brilliant director so that ensemble makes me super excited.

Yes, I agree Van Sant is a great director, it's a shame he's kinda had some misses with Hollywood. But I've been searching local video stores for Drugstore Cowboy and Gerry and I can't find either one! I might actually have to go to netflix...

And this movie does look great, if I get the chance I'll definitely go see it!

I will probably rent it when it comes out on video. I love movies with Sean Penn but I have to be in the mood to see them.

I only found out about the film a month or two ago, but I'm looking forward to seeing it.

But seeing some of the YouTube comments is just sad:

You have everything backwards because you take evrything in backwards,if Gay Mariage is allowed nation wide and made legal, evrything else will be made legal as well, group marriage, beastality, incest, and you want to make it all legal?

God Help us,my Church group will protest this movie Milk when it comes out,I'm gonna block people from the theater entrance from seeing this movie,so just stay home when it comes out, look at your twink porn, cause you'll never see this movie!Last time I checked, Christianity was about loving thy neighbour and not hate mongering.

"You have everything backwards because you take evrything in backwards"?! Circle reasoning is popular I guess.

Yeah, Gus Van Sant's films are not always good with Hollywood. He was in talks with Universal early in his career but they rejected every single one of his ideas. So he opted to go Independent and the films became massive indy hits.

It has a limited release so not many people will get to see it but I urge everyone to check it out!!!

I saw the trailer for this a few weeks ago at 'Religulous'. It's one of the best trailers I've ever seen in my life. I'm very excited.

Okay, well first I'll mention what I actually did like about it, Sean Penn, James Franco, Josh Brolin and Emile Hercsh were all absolutely fantasitic, their performances alone merit viewing. I especially liked Josh Brolin as Dan White. The cinematography was absolutely beautiful as well.

What I didn't like was the slightly schizophrenic nature of it. It was a dichotomy between classic, engaging Van Sant, and bland, disney-montage stuff. It was alienating. There were a few fleeting moments of the expected Van Sant greatness, the double assasination sequence, for example, was incredibly visceral. But there was one too many eye-roll-inducing, cheesy moments. To me, the pacing was all off, I never felt a break, a release in tention, even in the riot scenes. With such intriguing subject matter, Van Sant could have created something much more engaging.

TL/DR: Almost all of the performances were exceptional, but Gus really dropped the ball on this one.
