What's a Snap Zoom?

Actually, I know what it is but I was wondering how it is accomplished. Do you need a camera with a manual zoom or can it be done by a regular joe camera?

It can be done by SOME cameras, what you do is zoom in to crush the focal length, then get it to auto focus on the background (if you can), then get it to auto zoom to the subject.

It differs how to do it based on the camera, but it's easier to do it with a manual zoom, otherwise the zooming is kind of out of your control otherwise.

I presume his issue is the set-speed of the zoom (assuming 'average joe camera' implies it doesn't have a servo zoom).

If your zoom button is particularly slow, I can't think of anything you could do to speed it up (unless there's a 'zoom speed' option in the menu -- check the manual).
