I'm getting the HV30 for schristmas this year. My dad's getting it for me from B&H. So he wants to know if its gonna be this cheap ($549) just for the holiday seasone then It'll go back up to what it was or after christmas it go even further down. Mainly he wants to knwo if he should buy the camera for me for christmas while its cheap or give me a giftcard because it'll be even cheaper? Thanks..

I noticed B&H and Amazon are now raising their prices to around $590. There are no guarantees. Either this is a Christmas thing or they are phasing out the HV30 for hard drive models.

This is probably just a holiday price. Last year, when the HV20 was the hot thing, it dropped to a similar price and they even threw in a $100 gift card with the purchase. After the holidays, the price shot back up. I assume it's the same thinking as it was last year. But you know what happens when you assume. You make an Ass out of Uma Thurman... or something like that.

I'm aware of that. I was trying to make with the Ha Ha.

I'm getting an HV30 for X-mas, I'm so excited! If you get an HV30, you really should get a RODE VideoMic with it.

I couldn't wait - just got it. It has some fantastic options for its class - and I will squeeze every last drop of quality from it since I can't afford a prosumer level camera.

wait so the price of the hv30 is dropping because of the holiday season and not because canon might release new cameras soon and are just trying to phase out the hv 30?

i want the hv30 for a good price, but i was willing to wait until canon made any new cameras or announcements.

but now im not so sure...

Nice job assuming that SyxxGage doesn't know the original joke. I guess the saying really does work.

thats a good price i got it for like around that off of amazon free shiping :) its great camera i love it so far... going to use it on my 1st short film... only down side is that it is in 1080i (which means is interlaced) its a little misleading cause it says full 1080 hd (so i assumed it meant 1080p) and then it says 1080i in little letters underneath it but.... regardless its a step up from SD cameras and you can get 35mm adaptors for it... its a great semi-professional camera

If you set it to 30p, it is 1080p.

Menu > REC/IN SETUP > HD STANDARD > HDV30.

I've loaded the resulting m2t into DGIndex; it most definitely is 1080p (though horizontally 1440 but there's a workaround). What makes you think it's 1080i?
