Hey I'm from England and am a HUGE IndyMogul fan. Any other Brit film makers wanna share links, ideas or maybe collaborate on projects might wanna use this to speak to each other. If you are reading this you probably already know how annoyingly difficult it can be to make films on this side of the Atlantic so I guess something like this can be a help.

to kick things off my youtube channel link is:

so please use the thread it might give you a hand and be helpful in the future!

Im a british home movie maker/fan, and I know what you mean by finding it hard to make movies in Britain (Mainly the threats of chavs stealing your camera and the weather, hehe).

ohhhhh, don't get me started on chav's stealing equipment - When we were filming for a mate's horror film using a monitor, pro DV cam etc. we accidentally interupted a meeting of the Chav's :D

Anyway, luckily one of our party spoke fluent chav and he was able to explain our situation and we left unscathed WITH our equipment.... always a first time i guess

I was thinking something along the lines of Indy Mogul UK.... mmmmm
lol, Rico

Hey, count me in!

I don't have a site to show yet (there is one under construction but the blog isn't fully implemented yet).

The most annoying thing about shooting in this country?

"Oi, can I be in your f**kin' video, mate? Let me in the f**kin' video dickhead!"

And if you don't let them in the film, you'll find your camera gone as soon as you turn your back.

Damn, I hate chavs. :supermad:

i understand your liquid latex problem, im trying to make fake heads, hands, skin anything to do with bodies and i need the stuff but its not easy to get a hold of. I'm devastated we dont sell firecrackers, those squibs yanks make are pretty awesome and im stuck with a bug sprayer! But yer I do find also that if you ask your friends they are usually up for anything if it means being on camera and people are usually happy to allow you to film where ever you want. Remember to leave links for any sites you have up with your films on, i'll try and leave ratings and comments if its youtube!

Hmm, us brits need an alternative list for all the american stuff.

bridboyross
09-24-2007, 06:48 PM
Definetely, all the wal mart stuff is not as easy to get unless you live next door to a huge B&Q which most of us small town english lot dont sadly. I suppose if you got into fireworks and pulled out innder workings it might have the same effect but then you could also end up dead so I might stick with my bug sprayer.

Could be, im shocked at how few brits are on these forums, everyone writing to them seems to be the same person on all! We must get the word out to other brit film makers, we must make films and watch indymogul!

Im actually welsh =], and a good thing to use instead of latex on the fake heads is PVA glue it takes alot longer to dry but it works the same, Iwouldn't recomend putting it on your face though like Erik suggests in the zombie effect, and bridboyross i saw your film about the gardener it was imence =].

I'd say Sheffield is pretty big. Went to the Hallam FM arena in March (or was that May?) to see Bob Dylan.

bridboyross
10-17-2007, 09:07 AM
can do pickpcketing but usually they just pick on loner people and stuff when they are in a group and force them to give over there phone and wallet etc, mainly they loll about abusing people, drinking and vandlaising stuff. They dress in tracksuits and knock off gear with socks tucked into the tracki bottoms. Everyone hates chavs except other chavs.

I'm from St.Neots near Cambridge. We seem to have a split culture here, there's a big road going straight through the town, and one side is chav-infested, and the other side is pretty clear.

For all you more serious film makers, I'd highly reccomend signing up to the IAC - http://www.fvi.org.uk/
They hold bi-yearly film festivals/competitions around the UK, and It's a great way to showcase your movies to the film community. It's judged by Industry professionals, and if you are unlucky enough to win anything, you get (very helpful) feedback on your film, and how to improve it next time round.
It's around £30 to sign up. The only downside being that you can't upload movies you wish to enter to the internet until after the competition is over.. so I won't be able to show any of you guys what I can really do until after the Festival in January.. watch this space though..

Is there any shops i can go to in the UK where I can get liquid latex without going on internet? Or is eBay the way forwards...

ace razor if ur still in secondary school i suggest that you ask your teacher ect. (especialy art teachers) if they've ever worked with liquid latex and if they can get u some because my art teachers are very nice and will order me stuff in like latex and plaster of paris.
ive also got the added help of someone who worked on a show called spitting image who has used tons of liquid latex.

http://www.funatyourfingertips.co.uk that is a great place to get Make Up and stuff for films, I've used it and its great, I think that over here if you want to get proper make up gear for films you need to live near a specialist store (I could be wrong and correct me if I am) as I'm not aware of any chain stores that stock the stuff a make up artist needs. Prosthetic Man has a good idea, I've got plaster of paris cheaply through my Art Teacher before as they can get discount if they say its for use through the school.

Liquid latex in the UK? Try your nearest Art supply shop.... if they haven't got any they can usually order it in for you. It's what I've always done and it's usually pretty reasonable prices...

Wales can be particularly expensive for art/craft things, for some reason it's either non-existent or the stores that do stock art supplies are dreadfully expensive!

If you just want a small amount try this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liquid-Latex-Make-up-1oz-effects/dp/B000WNIQF6

Or try LARP shops, they always have make-up goodies... like: http://www.lrpstore.com/Latex-01L/p--317/

Yeah I'm still in secondary school and my Art teachers aren't very nice, and I'm not aware of any art shops in my area. I think I'll check out that site that bridboyross suggested.

Thats the first time I've heard that, good on you! ;)

But yeh, you should think yourself lucky that you are in america, you have no chavs ruining everything (Sorry to bring up the topic again, I have a serios vendetta against them :steve:)

Annoying about the Rugby. But I finally put to mind that the replays use time lapses like in 300, pretty cool...

It's amazing how much mainstream TV here actually uses visual effects. I've only just started noticing it.

I'm from Manchester myself... which is fairy big I suppose.

I'm surprised liquid latex is such a problem for you guys to find. You can normally find it in costume shops (at least the ones I've been in), or on the internet. Internet wise I've used http://www.lrpstore.com/Liquid-Latex/c-1-40/ before and also http://www.ruthless-effects.co.uk/makeup-supplies.htm

I've never had any problems with chavs while filming. The closest we got was when packing up for our last film and walking past a load of white lightning consumers in full axe wielding costume. They didn't say anything tho

Mostly i just get men asking if I'm shooing porn and if they can be in it.

According to Heroes:Unmasked, Britain is the best place to film outdoors to get the most professional looking lighting, the moisture in the air softens the light from the sun, lowering the contrast of shadows. Looks like we have one less thing to worry about over here.
