Anyone hobbyists into the wide world of Miniatures?

I am a huge Games Workshop (http://www.gamesworkshop.com/) fan. Being one has allowed me to explore the world of modeling, sculpture, painting, etc.

I think this sort of hobby would transfer over to Indy Mogul since practicing it will get you a lot of experience in creating fake world objects. For example, creating styrofoam buildings, rocks, trees, fences, or crates. Learning to create a 2" tall rock made from styrofoam or another substance (that LOOKS like a real rock!) is transferable to creating larger scale representations for movie sets.

No I diddnt make that. But ya get the ideer...

Environment/scene design and setup begins with making small scale models. Anyone into crafting materials for film scenes might dig Miniatures hobbyist websites or other related social networking apps.

Personal favorite of mine is White Dwarf Magazine (http://uk.games-workshop.com/whitedwarf/). Great resource with full color high res imagery of a premium selection of user submitted works, as well as professional. Always loaded with crafty and creative tips.

Black Gobbo (http://us.games-workshop.com/e-zine/issues/blackgobbo-99/default.htm) is another good site.

I really want to create some futuristic building and vehicle miniatures after seeing Blade Runner, which has inspired me to make some sort of sci-fi film.

What seems to be the biggest problem in miniature filming is not just making them, but shooting them realistically. I don't know whether I should use a conversion lens, what sort of lighting, aperture size etc.

I always wanted to do this.

But I suck at art.

I do enjoy making clothing though!

Well Games Workshop is one of the main shops for Warhammer soo...

I am not that good at Warhammer and the creating buildings and such, but going into Games Workshop and just watching people play is a great experience.

I play Warhammer 40K sometimes, I have a Chaos Space Marine army (Not a big one, though...) and my brother has a Space Marine army and a Wood Elf army.

I haven't played in a while but I'm gonna start playing again soon.

Aha, another Fan. What team do you collect?(If you do collect one.) I collect the Warhammer 40k Orks and Wood elves for normal Warhammer

If you Google paper models or paper doll furniture you can find tons of printable miniatures. I've made buildings, furniture, weapons, and environments doing this.

That looks like a lot of fun to work on. I thrive on detail-oriented work like that. If I had a middle name it would definitly be Meticulous...but people would call me Meti for short.

I used to collect and play it... Every now and then I buy some stuff and make something thats looks cool but isn't usuable in the game.
