I just purchased a canon gl1 on eBay and was wondering if anyone has any tips (don't turn on night shit, check the hours, don't whack people over the head with it) also any accessories for it.

Yeah gl1!! Woo.
Anyway, more serious matters.
Pick up a Beachtek adapter for using XLR mics with it. I have one, and it is an amazing piece of hardware. Also grab a nice mic, (I use the Audio Technica AT8035) a boom pole, and shock mount.
Grab two of the extended batteries, you won't regret it.
Also get a hoodman for the LCD screen if you tend to shoot outdoors a lot.
Enjoy your camera bro!

Congrats, I"ve had a GL1 for like 7 years now, and I stinkin' love it. Besides a Good Mic, start working on a decent lighting setup. No matter how Good your cameras optics are, the lighting really makes a big difference.

If you search for the ATR-55 in the search bar of this forum, you'll find that a lot of people use it here, you will get a lot of info - including that the ATR-55 was the mic that IM used in the early builds.
I would recommend the RODE VideoMic. I have it, and its a fantastic mic for money. ($120 from jacksmusicfactory.com)
