Aparently there was an indymogul group project attempted once before and fell apart, could anyone with information on that project give me details on what happened.
We're working on group project called "Cereal Killers" a Zombie Film that is another colaboration piece and I want to know what went awry with the previous project so I can take measures to make sure that doesn't happen again.
I'm not looking for finger pointing, so please dont go there.

It was just too hard to grasp it, I think. Ciwi and GOA were in charge of that. I'm pretty sure that it was just too hard for two people to control about 50. Everyone's schedule was different, and stuff. I could be wrong, but they would be the ones to ask about it.

Ok...heres how it went.
We started off like you letting everyone give their opinion in a thread, but the amounts of different ideas became overwhelming so we made a cutoff point to which people could put their name down to enter (which was even mentioned on a episode of Q and Erik).
So then we set up a yahoo group so we could isolate ourselves from new people joining who didn't have a clue what was going on, but people were still throwing out random ideas and noone was really paying attention to each others ideas.
So we took another approach. We made an admin group of 7 people who would come up with the idea and sort everything out. We were going to accept clips from mogulers with some generic guidelines but giving them creative control and have 9 selected people (and the Indy Mogul guys) provide clips to go in the middle to give it some variety.
We met in a chatroom every sunday but since we all lived in different timezones or people would have other appointment sometimes people would miss and chat and not know what point we were at. And we got distracted in the chat aswell, so the project moved kind of slowly.
We were really close to being ready and the whole thing just kind of collapsed. One or two people stopped visiting the forums as frequently...we lost contact with some people, and the storyline we had failed without them. We tried to keep it goin but.....it just died.
It was based of what was happening at the time with indy mogul and then the show format kind of changed, so that didn't help either.
A couple of things led to its failure but I think the main problem was communication.
1. People throwing out random ideas and starting off on their own without waiting or listening to other people
2. getting a live chat working between people in different time zones.
Good Luck with yours!

Actually, there was another lesser known group project known as The Brain Fart Project.
We had a bunch of people, a chat set up, and an idea of what we wanted to do.
It just died as well.

That was The Brain Fart Project. The main guy stopped coming to the forums so it died out. I still have a bunch of junk I was saving to create my character.
Edit: My bad Nonsensical, I was posting at the same time you were.

Thanks for the info, I will take the necessary steps to ensure we do not have the same problems, once we are a little further along I'm going to be putting an article in our newspaper about what we are doing and recruit people on my end, if anyone is interested in doing the same in your area let me know and we can coordinate on that, but make sure your willing to meet with these people in person before taking that step, I can only do so much over the net.

I wonder... I was part of that, but had to leave the forum for several months...

I dropped because no one ever got back to me about the progress on the project.
I just assumed it was still going on and I hadn't seen it yet.

Don't make Guarantees. You may have control over what you do, but not over others in different cities, states, countries etc.

I cannot control what others do, but I can guarentee to give someone an update of what is going on wether good or bad, I do not see my giving someone details about the overall progress of the project as being out of my hands or my controll.
If you want to get silly about it, I could say I could guarentee to give someone an update about the overall direction of the project as long as I'm not dead, in a coma, kidnaped by aliens, suffering from amnesia, or otherwise incapacitated beyond being able to make rational thought.
If someone wants an update, I'm responsible enough to follow through with it.

The real story is a lot less complex: The project was largely made up an administered by very young people, so it was a combination of little-to-no administrative experience and a crew with woefully short attention spans.

Actually, the drawless animation was headed by a 47 year old guy.

There are like 6 writers at once, and one of them is 12. This project isn't getting off the ground, as nice as it would be.

Yeah. Writers who have never met each other, collaborating almost never works.

How about we at least get to the finished script before deciding this is going to fall on its face.
