As much as I like Bobby :bobby: , and some of the "shorts" he showed us, i have found this show to be very useless. Why can't we bring back 4 Minute Film School, and Weekend Extra, where they actually helped us learn something. Its kind of nice to watch this every once and a while, when the shows on it can be funny, but we really need to get the other shows back, even if Steve isn't the one to narrate it (if he really is leaving IndyMogul, to me it is Unknown.)
What do you think?
Thanks,

Okay. First of all, yes Steve has left. He is pursuing a musical career, I hear.
Second, TBSFINW is an amazing addition to the Indymogul lineup. You say
that it doesnt teach anything, but i disagree. It gives all of us mogulers
examples of,well, the Best Short Films in the World. It's always good to learn
from the best.
Beyond that, the show and films it displays are pure entertainment! By Thursday,
it's been a long week, and some brief, funny, or inspiring films are just what I need
to get me through the week. The host is hilarious and a great actor as well. I certainly
hope, as do most mogulers, I belive, that Bobby and TBSFINW is here to stay.

I think comparing Best Short Films to something like 4 Minute Film School is like comparing apples to oranges. And I've directed fruit before, so I know the difference between the two.
Best Short Films shows your short films and the best short films in the world. And in 2009, I'm planning to bring you more filmmaker interaction (ie. interviews, specials, etc.) But, it's just not 4 minute film school. And it shouldn't be. It's a variety show where I'm the goofball host and I show you clips of short films.
I know that I can only do that sorta thing for so long until it gets old, which is why, like I said, I have plans to expand the show more and break format a bit. The Sundance Special planned for January 15th will be one such example.
And as far as the value of a show that shows you quality films every week. I guess I see it like this:
You can only learn film by either:
watching it
or
making it
What I wanted this show to be was a place where everyone watched the 4 films every week and talked about them on the forums or on the blog post and that we would bring in filmmakers to discuss their techniques and all of that. But, unfortunately no one was interested in that. I had started threads for each episode at the start and it just fizzled out.
I tried to create a community based around these films where we talked about why the films were good and why maybe they weren't and how they were made, but it just didn't gel together. And that's been something I've been trying to figure out how to do better ever since.

Well said, Bobby. Very well said indeed.
But don't feel like you have to make changes. I mean, I'm sure they'll be awesome,
but if it's too hard, the standard TBSFITW is awesome anyway. You seem hard on yourself lately, what with Youtube haters and such. Deep breaths, Bobby. Get over
that cold you had in Episode 15 and bounce back up to bring us more of TBSFITW

im getting really pissed at posts like this.
first off all the shows on indy mogul are free to you
therefore you should be happy with what you get
and frankly id be happy paying for TBSFITW
so quit complaining as this show is great
and although 4MFS was great
its gone, be happy with what you have
if indymogul does fail like abunch of people are saying
which i for one think is compleely wrong
your all gonna realize that you shouldve just been happy that you had a free show to watch

Well i am sorta with holls but if Bobby could help improve the best short films by putting behind the scenes videos on it.
Other wise it just seems a bit point less.
BUT.... dont get me wrong you can learn from this new show.
but in my perspective it just seems pointless.

Yeah guys, I like Bobby's Show, and basically it has nothing to do with bobby, because i like his show, he is funny, kind of a dork, but funny... haha.. and i was just trying to say that even if steve wasn't here, it would be nice to have some of the old shows back, too.

Yeah Bobby, I like your show, it's good, but what i really meant to say, was that what is happening to Indy Mogul, it just seems that were losing shows because of 4 Minute Film School, and Weekend extra, because those shows really helped too. So it is nothing against Bobby, or his show, I was just trying to make a point, but Bobby really does have some skill. With his jokes, and his fruit.
Sorry Bobby!

(and i am Hollstroms Productions, but that was a new account i made because mine won't let me change my email --- Sorry for the INconvenience)<<< even though i dont think i spelled it right.

I think the show is great. But it is one of the 'tougher' shows, if you can call it that. BFX and Q & Erik give you straight up answers, and/or step-by-step instructions. TBSFITW is a show that you have to think about, and I guess some people don't realize that.
The films that are placed on that show are there for a reason. You don't see horrible films on there, you see ones with good production value, plot, keep you hooked, good shot composition etc. It's just that you have to realize that, understand it.
I think people just see it as a bunch of movies to watch. Which it is... If you're not willing to put in the effort and actually look into them. You have to see what goes into them. How the camera moves, how the actors talk, to the editing, to sounds, color grading, whatever. Just take it all in. Watch it a few times if you have to, even.
Just look at the great films that are on the show and see how you can make your own films more like them. Or, if you don't like something, how to avoid doing it. This is the only show where information isn't just handed to you, it takes some work from the viewer. And I think this is why you get lots of complaints and hate comments.

Well thanks, i get it better. The reason why i brought this up was not really because i didnt like this show, but because i really liked watching the weekend extra and 4MFS's effects that you could learn. I never meant anything against that show. I hope you understand.

I understand. That post was more towards Bobby, anyways.
Listen, nobody's mad at you for stating your opinion (lovely thing about this forum). I think you just didn't word it right for what you were trying to say, so people got the wrong idea. But I see what you were saying: It's not that you don't like TBSFITW, it's that you liked WE and 4MFS more. Nothing wrong with that.

yeah punkandska hit the nail right on the head
and mch7 most of what i said was not directed towards you directly
just lately there have been several threads about the failure of indymogul
and its really starting to piss me off
i just took it out on this thread because bobby seemed sad
and i dont want him to quit doing what he does
I got to say, I really like this show. I don't have the time to go hunting down short films on the net and this show gives me some good ones to watch.
I think people just see it as a bunch of movies to watch. Which it is... If you're not willing to put in the effort and actually look into them. You make some really good points. The show gives me some films that I can analyse myself. Practical things like BFX are great but often people overlook proper analysis. There are a lot of aspects that go into making a good film and shows like this allow us to think about more about the film more.
We should revive the film discussion threads. Never got the time to participate much but I'd willing to try more in the future. But it's great to talk about films, even if you didn't like them.
Anyway....keep up the good work Bobby. You're a fun host.
Rob
Yeah, thanks. I didn't mean to word it like that, when i wrote it, it just came out like that. Not until now, (reading it again) did i know how dumb it sounded.
And i agree with operationivy5656 saying it is dumb for people to talk about the future of Indy Mogul, and i think what we need to do is on Q and Erik Live tomorrow, we should get them to talk about this. But indymogul isn't getting worse, they're trying to make it better.
And right now, i sure wish they had a "Delete Thread" button. haha.

I think it was only a matter of time before a film showcase show was born on indy mogul.
There are only so many basic film making techniques you can teach before you start repeating yourself. BFX is really the only film making show that has staying power because there are unlimited amounts of props and effects that you can create.
And to say that BSFITW is useless I disagree. If its one thing that independent film makers need, its exposure. Right now Indy Mogul is a big thing among young film makers and having and getting a film shown on there is serious exposure.
