Hello People of Indy Mogul, I just Joined the forum and wanted to share my latest project with you guys and girls!!

We (Home Pictures) are making a Thriller/Drama titled Deception.

Deception is a psychological thriller written by Andrew Mitchell. It is about two serial killers who worked together as partners, terrorizing the Mid-Columbia. There were never any solid leads to identities of the serial Killers; until one day, a woman witnessed one of the serial killers dumping a body in a river. She called the local authorities and the killer was later apprehended. She then testified against him in court; putting him behind bars. Now, the serial killer’s partner wants revenge and kidnaps the woman’s two children and holds them for ransom. Now it is up to two detectives to solve the case, but with time against them, can they save the kids in time?

I am having a small contest for Deception! Send us crime scene photos of murders, evidence, blood splatter, etc. It must be related to murder though, since the movie is about two serial killers. If you could send a picture of the victim (alive) like a family picture that would be great, That is optional though. We are going to make homicide files on most of the victims of the serial killers. The file will have all the info on the victim along with the crime scene photos and a photo of what they looked like before the crime. Most of these files will appear in the movie as the detectives go through the files to find something that links the killings together.

Also you will receive a special thanks in the credits too! and your photo will appear in the DVD!

PLEASE NOTE that Deception is a drama so please no silly photos. However, there is no limit on gore, you can make them as graphic as you want, but they have to be realistic; so nothing like a guy got a paper cut and gallons of blood came out of his finger. Photos Wise I would prefer High resolution images so anything bigger than 500 pixels. Jpg, bmp, png etc. are all fine. I would prefer png or psd, but any format is cool as long the quality is good Wink
Please try to avoid having copyrighted logos in the photo too.

CHARACTERS
Amanda Williamson, 16 (years old), is the daughter of the Rebecca Williamson, the woman who testified against the killer. Amanda is a high school student. She is introverted, but outgoing in many situations. She is a good leader, and is quite independent. She is smart, funny, and witty as well.

Brad Williamson, 14, He is the younger brother to Amanda Williamson. He also is in High School. He is outgoing, He is very social, He likes making people laugh, he is pretty mature for his age, and sometimes enjoys being with the in-crowd and following what popular people do.

Todd Meycer, 16, He is Amanda's boyfriend. He goes to the same school as Amanda. He is outgoing, friendly, funny, and independent. He is pretty popular in school, and gets pretty good grades too.

Luke Mcphearson, 25, is one of the detectives leading the case to find the Amanda and Brad Williamson. He is very charismatic, outgoing, intelligent, and ambitious. He is natural leader and a good team player. He is active in the community and works hard at his job to make it a safer place.

Mark Sorto, 25, is a newest detective for the Police Department. He is introverted, yet quite charismatic. He is very pensive, logical, and has a short temper. He is pretty talkative, a reliable employee, and a hard worker.

Stephen Edwards, 50, is the chief of police. He assigned the kidnapping case to Luke and Mark. He is responsible for supervising them and making sure they and the rest of the station have all the resources they need to find the kids. He is a family man and treats his personnel as family. He believes in teamwork. He is very focused when it comes to work. He's not super strict but still follows the rules and expects his personnel to as well.

Al Steef, 26, is the serial killer who got caught and is now in prison. This character doesn’t appear in the movie physically, but rather in pictures from newspaper articles, and trail photographs.

The serial Killer/Steef’s partner is elusive, stealthy, manipulative, merciless, and vengeful. He wears a black outfit to conceal his identity, and hides in dark areas.

Witness, 14, is a teenager boy who witnessed the serial killer put bodies in a van. He is shy, smart, honest, friendly, and quirky.

Co Worker, is a person who works at the police station. She is very organized and neat.

Co Worker 2, is a fellow police officer who works at the police department.

Dont get many posts with this much info on a film, som ebehind the scenes with auditions, and equipment.
Nice Equipment btw, and my dolly looks simillar to yours, but mine has 4 wheels haha.

Thanks so Much! That's a great Question! I'd say our budget is under $1,000. So far I have spent over hundred on props, costumes, and equipment. I know alot of people who are professional videographers and one of them is in the movie. So that's really exciting!

Yeah It must be your computer, I amped up the brightness alot for the internet. Try changing your brightness, that should help. ;)

My media apps recently made a PSA for national tv and everyone apart of it had to sign a consent saying that it was ok with them if it aired, because if they didn't then somebody who helped with the film could say "I didn't agree that my part of this video could be shown so I'm gonna sue you."

So legally you do, but not if you just have nice friends.

Well I have run into some problems, well 1 really. Basically the location I had in mind for the warehouse showdown isn't going to work. I will have to play them $50 an hour to shoot there, because I am not non profit, and I want to sell the dvds.

DO NOT WORRY! I have a back-up plan. My mother just so happens to be the property manager of an apartment complex, and she said she wouldn't mind allowing us to shoot. Instead of an abandoned warehouse, I will just change it to a abandoned apartment complex. I have no idea if that is realistic, I might just change it too an apartment complex that is under new management, and they are remodeling a wing of the the place, where there are storage rooms and such, and the time the kidnapping took place is when the apartment wing is pretty much abandoned; since it's break for the workers.

Bumpity Bump!

Basically Principal photography is complete! All we have to shoot now is the prologue!

So shooting is literally done! I am about almost halfway done with editing too. I still haven't captured the gunfight footage, or the last of the ACT 2 footage we shoot on sunday.

All would be great. If you could upload it in full quality and upload it to megaupload or something that would be great. HD would be fine. You might have to upload it in to 2 parts though, to keep the file size down.

I shot it at a community center. They had some office like rooms. I also shot it at an office at my mom's work.

I didn't shoot any scenes at a police station.

Ok! I really want to get atleast the rough cut of the film done by the end of the month, so the sooner the better!

if mov doesn't work Mp4 would be fine, or heck if you can upload it as an .DV or .AVI that would be good too. No cinepak compression though, that sucks. Avi's generally work on my compy so I don't see that being a problem. I want it in the best quality you can conjure. if you shot it in widescreen 853x480 would be the desired ratio, if it is in full screen 720x480 is fine. You could also do a .mov with a DV compression too. If the movie is too long, like nine mins, or something, you can either split it into parts, or if you do compress it, up the data rate to around 1500 or higher and it will look pretty good.

Hmmm that is a toughy. I would say maybe try an animal shelter, or maybe you could get permission to shoot in the small prision in the tri-cities. I would say the interior of the B-building looks prison-esque. Some high school and elementary school buildings and Hospitals could pass as a prison buildings. Interior of hospital buildings would look good.

What really helps is networking, if your uncle owns a business that can really help in getting permission.

What I would try, is to building the bars of the cells out of woden dowels. Obviously you would pant them black, and need to make them like a set of play where they could be assembled on the spot and easily stored. You could set up the cells in a large basement, warehouse, or gym. If you painted them well you wouldn't tell. use some glossy or semi-glossy paint, then paint on dirt, rust, etc, to make it more convincing.

Yeah spandex wouldn't really make sense, the whole point of the killer's costume is stealth. Ninjas don't wear spandex, their outfits are pretty loose. Spandex would look pretty silly unless the killer was superman's evil uncle. NOW a wetsuit would look better, something along the lines of batman begins, but the killer isn't rich, and it would be more convenient to wear street clothes, so you could change in between disguises easier.

Sure that would be great! BUT I prefer that you use real fake blood, instead of making it in photoshop or whatever. You can make fake blood pretty easy. If you don't want fake blood to stain too much, you can use dish soap and dye it red (with food coloring of course), add a drop or two of blue too, and it should look decent. I used dish soap blood for deception, so it wouldn't stain the concrete and brick wall and it worked perfectly, it didn't stain at all, well, it mostly didn't stain, there where like two of very small spots, but you have to be really close to see them.

If you don't mind staining stuff, then I would just get chocolate syrup and put red food coloring in it, maybe a very tiny small drop of blue. You could also use corn syrup too, it's just chocolate syrup is more opaque so it looks a bit better, but it's all in how you make it ;)

Oh make sure the pics are at least wallpaper size (1024x768) please ;)

Yeah I might desaturate it a bit. The flashback definitely was color corrected, I desaturated to 50% and decreased the blacks and increase the highlights, giving it a higher contrast.

By the way, yesterday I just finished cutting the gunfight! I don't have the muzzle flashes done yet, but man it's sweet!

The muzzle flashes don't look to good. They are way to bright. They look more neon than fire. Also they are too random. The first and second pictures don't even look like they are exiting the gun. They just look like fire balls.

Actually that's pretty much what they look like in the movies. I used several Movies and pictures with night or darkly lit gun fights as reference and the flashes are quite blurry and they DO really brighten up guy firing the gun, and nearby objects. Keep in mind that you are only going to see the muzzle flashes for 1 frame per second.

Good News Deception is going to be Released Late August! Maybe Earlier!
Me and My Friend jason are going to finish up the remaining music and it will be done! :D

I would like to get some hype before the film comes out so i can get some exposure.

I am going to get the film premiered locally at an auditorium and I am planning to release the film on the web the same day.

Also I am thinking of just having the film only on Vimeo, because if I where to put it on youtube it would have to be in like 3 or 4 parts, which would be kinda lame.

I am also thinking of having a version you can download from a site like filefront.

In regard to making profit, I am planning to have the film be free on the net, the quality would be good; but if you want better quality you can buy dvd's from our site. So it would be like a donations kind of thing, also We are going to look into selling posters and t-shirts too.

Well thanks man! Yeah the film is alot dark on a computer it's not too bad on a tv. but I definitely learned the importance of overlighting night scenes the hard way. If your night shots are too bright you can always darken them in post. We did do that, but we should have went brighter, but it was pretty hard to find people that would want to help us film it. We were spread pretty thin crew wise, it was me as the camera operator/director, jon hanson, as my assistant director/boom operator, and Brad Steiner as an assistant director/creative consultant/actor. There were a couple days that we would have one or two more people helping on crew.
