I know theres already a thread about mics but I wasn't about to look thro 2434324 posts... so anyways I want to get a mic cuz my cameras mic sucks but my camera doesnt have an input http://www.amazon.com/Canon-ZR850-MiniDV-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B000M4JDQQ/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1232944608&sr=1-32 thats the camera I have anyone have any ideas besides buying different camera?

just drill a hole in your camera and plug in your mic it should work fine
you can use a power drill right

im serious... is there some recording box that I could plug the mic into, and i could match it up with the video later?

You could use an external audio recorder then sync it in post, but that would probably be pretty tedious. If you're onboard mic is really shit, though, that may be you're best option.

You can buy a Zoom H4, it will not only allow you to use a mic, but it will allow you to use your mics to their full potential. It has two XLR inputs (which can also be used as 1/4" stereo inputs), phantom power, a preamp, headphone input for audio monitoring and if you're into music it has built in effects for instruments and vocals... and a tuner...
It's costly but it's so worth it. Give it to your boom operator and let him rock out with it! It also cuts down in XLR costs because instead of running a cable down the boom and to the camera, you just need a 10-15 foot cable to go down the boom and into the Zoom... which rhymes... sweet.
