S I pretty much finish my script and some of the actors will be receiving a copy of it by the end of the week.

now I feel as though I should be sitting down and talking to them but about what I am unclear, although there is an urge to talk to them.

So I'm not sure what do do beyond this point, script is done, locations I am already scouting, lined up a few actors but now all of them yet (still working on it) am I missing something???

Try a table reading to make sure the lines flow naturally. The actors can also use that time to voice any concerns about their character/lines. This will help eliminate some problems on shooting day.

about the release forms, how would you modify them when you are not paying your crew or talent or anyone :D

Break the script down by location. Shoot all the scenes at one location and then move to the next one.

Break each scene down by shot and have this ready to go.

Have a shooting script just for you and those who will be behind the camera.

Circle each prop, sound.

Make notes that show the secondary activities of each actor, don't tell the actors how to act though.

Have back up locations ready, get these now! Just in case something happens.

At the reading make sure everyone knows who is charge.

Make sure you have toilet facilities in place.

Get lighting kit ready, have extra light bulbs.

Plan your craft services, or snacks. Find out if anyone is alergic to any foods. Don't kill any of your actors by mistake, they hate dieing for real.

buy 20 pens, you'll need every stinking one of them.

Have your script supervisor ready. When you shoot scene one, this person should be quietly setting up the set for the next one.

Type up your release forms, even if the actors are friends, have them sign the form...or you'll not be able to show the film anywhere but Youtube and you can still be sued.

Start thinking about music, if you don't think yu'
ll need music, you're mistaken.

Type up direction to all locations, don't assume peole know where they're going.

Check your microphone. Tapes, or hard drive, make sure it is working before you shoot.


Alert the city where you are doing this that you're shooting a movie.

If blood is being made get on this.

Find a still camera and have someone there to take still shots. Get one of the director working, stage this photo if you have to.

Double check script for typos, they'll make you look stupid the day of the shoot.

Use this:

(Name of actor) gives (your name & company name) permission to use his/her likeness, voice in any fashion with the project (Title of Project) for the life of the project.

The person above agrees and understands this this job is for no pay.

The person above agrees to make no claims, monetarily or otherwise against the project.


_______________(your signature) ____________(their signature) _________________parent/guardian if under legal age of consent

This will hold up in any court in the USA. don't use this part!!!!!!!

This is how I word my release forms for every project regardless of if I am paying someone or not.

As long as it is done that's no big deal.

You try to walk away, I grab your shoulder.

Ray- (laugh) you forgot something (points at form), Sign it!

I then snatch it back.

I almost gave them the stuff without getting a release form, first thing on my agenda when I give some of the actors the script.

Just wanted to chime in real quick on the release form question. I've been an actor in some films before and was required to sign a photo release. I was also working for the low low price of free. Basically, the section that mentions compensation was left blank. "_____ agrees to allow ______ full use of his/her likeness in exchange for_____". Before I signed it the AD had hand-written in "1 DVD Copy". Most actors who are willing to work for free, me included, are doing so in order to get a copy for their reel. And if they are not professional actors, they just want a copy to prove to people they were in a movie.
