View Full Version : Importing a 00:45:00 clip in to FCE?

So i just filmed my first real gig , a wedding and it went great. I filmed the the ceremony , cutting of the cake , interviews of guests , Ect. So i imported the footage from my HV20 looked great in the HDV capture window and seemed to import the whole thing real time without skipping anything. But , when i went to edit i noticed that the ceremony clip which was about 45 minutes long was only .6 of a second long. All the rest of the shorted clips where fine the drive off was still 2 minutes the cutting of the cake was still about 3 minutes but the main ceremony clip was still .6 of a second! i checked and found that in FCE preferences that i had the capture limit to 30 minutes. Fair enough i set it to a 60 minute limit and reimported another 56 minutes of footage just to once again find that the 45 minute long wedding ceremony was .6 seconds... again! Since this (after looking back) was my first time importing such i long clip i left it before i recorded more GBs on my hard drive.

So has anyone here imported a long clip from a Mini DV tape in to Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express and has had to make any changes that i don't know about?

Maybe your In-Out points are set wrong? Hard to say. Express and Pro work different ways to import, so I'm kind of unsure.

well, to avoid that, i save them on my computer first, then open them in whatever software i use.
try that!!

HDV capture in Express won't let you set in and out points.

Why don't you capture the footage in imovie and then import it?

Hmm. That's a tricky lil' booger. Have you tried restarting your computer, out of curiosity? If it's simply a RAM kind of thing you're going to kick yourself if you don't. If not, I would maybe check the Apple website.
