ok,

I bought a pair of dvd players for the car. they are Emerson LCD 0700E (basically a dvd player with a repeater)

but by the time you wire everything up, the kids are getting caught up in the wires and if you are watching a dvd, its like ytou have to be on a drive at least an hour or more.

so I removed them from the car.

next thought was to use them as personal indoor players.

but because they run on the cigarette lighter plug, I had to buy a dc power supply -- and its an odd setting as well. its supposedly "9.5v"

so, after some searching, I found such power supply. Ordered it off the Internet but after trying it, it didn't work.

I dont know why not.

so I have these lcd screens, I was thinking about hacking them into external monitors for camcorders.

so first, how can we power up these things? is there anyway to hook up a bunch of batteries in sequence?

2nd, my current camcorder has an output for AV/R (audio visual record) in other words, i can plug the camcorder into the dvd recorder and record to disk if necessary.

is there anyway to use that port to act as a monitor? maybe with some sort of adaptor?

alternatively, is there anyway to hack into the camcorder to get an external monitor port?

alternatively to that, will these work as in this DYI projector project (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6n6jW0XIV0)?

in this project, they used an lcd screen computer. I was hoping that I could at least play a dvd through this and project it.

theres got to be some use for these things.

the RED camera is looking better all the time!!

best, Phil

oddly enough, I saw that exact same video. I wonder, his camera said 8.4v but he used 2 x 9v batteries?

my dvd players call for 9.5v but when I set the power supply for that, they did not work.

what am I missing?

Do the monitors run off AC or DC current?

DC - they are made to plug into the cigarette lighter in the car - so the power converter I bought was also DC with several output settings on it. I searched for one specifically with 9.5v as the hardware calls for.

is there an equivalence in battery power?

I have a DVD player for my car, and I used my power cord from one of my external HDDs when my wife needed to use it indoors.

what input does your dvd player use? and is the HDD the same power requirement?

I heard if you put too much power, or even not enough, it could damage the player.

Can you change the polarity of the power supply? Do the monitors tell you if the center or outer is positive?

yes, positive is on the inside and ground on the outside.

the converter can reverse polarity - wouldn't that fry the machine?

Yeah more than likely, I just ment to check to make sure the polarity of the adapter and LCD are the same.

Not sure why it doesn't work.
