Glad you went with FCE. You liking it so far?

To import music, you must first export/save a correct file. In this case, in Garage Band, save the file as a WAV or MP3. Place it somewhere on your computer, where you know it is (and a place where it won't move when you are editing your project).

Now that you have the music file saved in the proper format, open FCE, and select: FILE>IMPORT>FILES. Find your music file, and drag it onto the timeline. BAM.

There are a bunch of great tutorials on how to use FCE on Apple's site: http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/

Good luck.

If you had the older version of FCE (3.5 or lower), it came with a free sound track editing program known as Soundtrack

If you have any questions about FCE, just ask! I've just switched to FCP and i have alot of tips for people who are just starting out. :)

For future reference, I believe to make music made in Garage Band able to be used in FC you had to do a few extra steps as the format of the general file did not always work. Now, mind you, this is from memory as I haven't done it in a year so its only the basic idea, not likely to be any of the actual step names:

1) In Garage Band, export the finished song to iTunes
2) In iTunes double check that the file came in as you want
3) Drag the song file out of iTunes to the desktop or a preset folder (the song should be in the iTunes format which I always forget the name of. This is different from the format it is in if you just export from GB to the desktop and works with FC)
4) In FC, import the clip and test it, then put in the timeline where needed.

That's the format name I was looking for. Yeah, at least last time I tried it, it was the best way we could find for easily making you GB workable in Final Cut
