When importing footage from a dv tape into Final Cut Pro, how do you split it by each time you pressed record? (i know thats a generalization, but im posting this to find out what you call it as well how to do it).

Ive been doing it manually so far and it is very tedious, im sure with something this advanced theres some way to do it.
Thanks!

Well, you can import in chunks which will create independent clips for each chunks(usually can be quite easy as you import a chunk that is all different takes of the same thing as you film it at one time) and then manually clip that into chunks, or more commonly the actual clip you want that you put in the timeline.

The only other method I know of, unless the feature for the software to make cuts in a long clip where it feels new takes begin was added in the year since I've used FCP, is to go through and search around and manual clip out the takes you want. This of course is a bit more tedious and I would recommend writing down time codes of good takes to help speed it up
