Hey everyone, I know most of you don't use 35mm adapters, but I know there are a few of you out there. I have a 75-300mm lens for my adapter, it needs ALOT of light, but I do want to use it for zooming, what is the best way to do this? I was thinking of building a handle to put around the zoom ring, and using that, but anyone else have any ideas?

My idea for such a perdiciment is to make a ring of LED lights that can be mounted around the lens. It has been used before for greenscreen shots.

Just my 0.02 but i hope you find a solution :D

Usually, I try not to zoom using the 35mm lens most zoom lenses for SLR breath a lot while zooming because they are made for still photography. If I need to zoom a bit I will just zoom using the cam lens on the GG. As a general rule I try to zoom as little as possible. I also use primes MUCH more than zooms because of the light issue. Anything over 135mm I just use my camera lens without the adapter as I cant get shallow DOF just as easily on that long a lens without losing all the light from the adapter.

I second the "breathing" comment, unless you are wanting that look in particular, I would avoid it. You also may get too much camera shake trying to zoom and keep focus at the same time. How long of a zoom-in are you looking for? It may look better just to use a tracked dolly.

If you focus correctly, zooming won't effect the focus.

Breathing, by the way, is an apparent change of focal length while FOCUSING. Zooming IS changing the focal length. I'm not sure what you guys were thinking of.

And yes, to back Westcroft, if you focus the right way (zoom in ALL THE WAY, focus, zoom out) you won't have to worry about pulling focus while zooming.
