Most music stores in Cali have someone there that give lessons, or at least a message board of people offering lessons. You could always check Guitar Center. Talk to there drum guys or also check there message boards.

If you're just looking to learn to play for fun, Go buy the video game Rock Band. Even if you don't have an Xbox (or whatever else it runs on), its probably gonna be cheaper than lessons in the long run. As someone who has played the drums for 14 years (and taught some lessons), I am convinced that the drumming aspect of Rock Band is close enough to the real thing that you could become a proficient rock drummer by getting good at it.

I have been playing for 4 years. And rock would mess me up. It is not like playing real drums. You don't really play a beat. Thats just my thought on it.

It takes a little while to learn to read the notation system, but you are TOTALLY playing beats if you play on Hard or Expert.
And even then, the game is still teaching you to read rhythms and to coordinate your limb movements, which is what drumming really boils down to.

Maybe you can talk to my cousin and meet with him for a whole day one time. He lives in Stockton and I know Clovis is next to Fresno. Stockton is near Tracy or something, I think you probably know where that is.
He's been drumming for over 13 years, and he's releasing an instructional DVD very shortly...listen to his music:

Great stuff.
