My video camera is a Sony handycam, with a small harddrive. The videos are saved as (.mpg)

I never had a problem before but now all of the sudden..

Adobe premiere, After Effects, and Quicktime, can not read .mpg. I cant import it into either of the adobe programs. and it plays in Windows media player.

I have installed codecs, uninstalled quicktime and reinstalled. I can find out what happened. I NEED this to work.

Your probably going to need to convert to clips to .avi or .mov (AE's favorite i believe). I use AVS Video Converter, I think its fairly cheap ( <$30)

There's a freeware program called "Any Video Converter" which doesn't effect quality a great ammount. It also converts the footage quickly, I recommend it

I use a piece of software called mpeg streamclip. It is free and is fast to convert
