christmas is coming up and I want a bunch of DVD's. could you reccomend some movies that would help an amatuer filmmaker? like for instance a movie with scenes and effects that could be easily replicated but still look good. thank you. ( Just so you know i like action, sci fi, and monster films)

Well, I don't know if you would think this is a good one on the effects end of things... But I love Red Dawn. It's a pretty cool action movie about the Russians invading a small town in America and it has lots and LOTS of scenes with gun-fights and explosions so if, like you said, you like action I would recommend this.

Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth.
Possibly Memento.
And 28 Days Later.
Fight Club obviously.
Oh, and Ed Wood.

I dunno, that's my list. Not neccesarily my favorite movies (some of them are) but they are all great achievments in filmmaking and will really help inspire you.

Entourage box set. Not really any effects, but it's a great show anyways. If I could have entourage box set I would be sooooo happy.
