Anyone seen this?

I saw it tonight, one of the best movies I've seen in awhile.

I searched but surprisingly couldn't find a thread on this...

I so want to see it but I doubt it will even get a release theatrically over here, and if it does it will be a limited art house release, which is really annoying because I love the Coen brothers. Would you say it is better than Fargo, and maybe even, The Big Lebowski? Seriously I need to see this.

I think I liked it better than Fargo. Hard to compare it to the big lebowski, they are so different. I'll have to see both again before making any statement on that. But here's a kind of spoiler I guess(highlight below). not really much of a spoiler, but it hints toward the general outcome.

It was one of the most tense endings ever in a movie that i've seen. I dunno if tense is the right word, but i didn't feel like i could stand up, when the credits had been rolling for a little bit. it was just extremely uncomfortable for some reason, which was amazing.. Maybe kind of like a history of violence's tense ending? but much better executed and much more powerful.

I've been waiting for this movie since I heard about it ages ago. I've read the book 3 times. I watched the trailer religiously. I rewatched every Coen Bros. movie before opening night.

AND IT TURNS OUT IT ISN'T COMING TO MY CITY! WHAT THE FUCK!?

SOME MOTHERFUCKER IS GONNA GET COLUMBINED FOR THIS.

I loved that film, defiantly one of the best I have seen in a while.

It was crazy. I've never been so viscerally affected by a movie. The tension was tight, and I was so wound up, that during a non suspenseful part a guy sneezed in the back and I jumped. I also liked the lack of a score, it drew me in closer. I also liked the themes of escapism and everything. Plus that cow executor thing was nuts.

Loved the movie but:
WHO HAS THE MONEY???

Did they kill the wife?

WHAT DOES THE ENDING MEAN?????

I give the movie over all an -A

(I grade heard!)

spoilers highlight.

I'm pretty sure Anton has the money, that's how he paid the kid for the shirt. I think he killed the wife, it looks like he's wiping blood off his shoes or something.

He most defiantly killed the wife. He wasn't wiping off blood, but checking to make sure it wasn't on his boots. When he killed Carson in the hotel room, he put his feet up on the bed to make sure blood didn't get on his shoes. So he was checking. I loved the way they did that. They didn't have to show her murder, but you still know he killed her.

I'm seeing this again soon, there is just so much going on. I think I got most of it, but I think there is still some stuff I could get a better understanding of.

I would probably say it's the best movie of 2007 say, although I did miss a couple key ones.

Finally came here... Wow, what a film.

Probably my favorite Coen Brothers film to date.

yeah. i saw it twice. it was great. definitely rivals fargo.

i do kinda think anton has the money. and he definitely killed llewelyn's wife. (he took his socks off after killing the mexicans, made sure blood didn't get on his shoes after killing carson, etc. so that shoe thing is a reoccurring event).

although i've heard the theory that bell has the money. the theory basically goes that anton is essentially the devil (or at least some sort of supernatural force) and he may be willing to make deals. this explains why he wasn't in that hotel room once bell entered even though he was clearly in it before bell entered. so basically he made a deal with bell (something he wasn't willing to do with llewelyn, perhaps because llewelyn was filled with greed), and bell retired with the money. i don't know, that's not necessarily what happened, but it's a theory i've heard.

either way, some of the scenes in this movie are among the best scenes i've ever seen in any movie ever. it was awesome. javier bardem will likely be nominated for an oscar. and i could definitely see him winning. great character. great performance.

eh, I don't think he made a deal with bell.

I'm pretty sure anton has the cash, him paying the little kid is supposed to tell us that. I don't think there was a "deal" between Bell and Chingeur, for one thing there wasn't ever really a time that could have happened, it wasn't even close to being implied, like Carla Jean's death was.

I figure he escaped while Bell was looking for him in the bathroom or something.

I haven't seen Fargo yet, but I have it, but the Big Lebowski is one of my favorites. I would say yes, critically, it is a better film. No Country for Old men was excellent. It was a great visual film, that told much of the story through picture.
