Do you think it will gross as much as the previous movies?
I personally dont think that it will. I love harry Potter, Mostly because I've grown up with it as from a young age I was reading the books etc, I loved all the movies [accept order of the phoenix] and I really can't wait for this one to come out.
However, I don't think there has been enough build up for this movie. I know its not out for another month or so, So mabye there is room to start getting some promotional work done, Therefore I dont think that this film will do as good at the box office.
I also hate how they leave the important parts of the books out in the films, They needed to cover more ground. I was happy when they announced that deathly hallows would be split into two parts, Its the final battle and If they didn't, Hardcore HP fans would go nuts.

I'm really looking forward to this, not because I think it'll be good, because I'm a huge HP fan. I think that a lot of people will just see it because it's Harry Potter, but I think you're right, a lot of people don't even know it's coming out due to bad Marketing.

Out of all the things they have left out of the Harry Potter movies is the fact that Harry has green eyes.
Daniel Radcliffe has blue eyes, and they haven't even bothered to digitally recolour them to green. Huge thing seeing as Snape saved Harry only because he has Lily's (green) eyes.

accept order of the phoenix
It was talky, boring, and uninteresting. It's pretty much a connector between Harry Potter's adventures (1-3) and the story of Harry Potter (6+7). And these connector movies, books, tv shows, are always boring.
Order of the pheonix was also the the most boring book. It took way too long to get into.

But I wish Chris Colombus directed.
Chris Colombus got this franchise on its feet, but didn't make it what it is today... Colombus's films were much less dark than the newer ones, and I think it's good that they had a little change in direction... The kids have become much better actors and the movies have become more interesting...
And I agree that Order of the Phoenix was one of the best - NOT the worst - films out of all of them.

Thinking about it you probably have a point, Google.
I was very mad when Colombus stepped down to let Alfonso (can't spell his last name)
direct the third movie because I thought it lessened the "magic." However, you're probably right that his style isn't good for the later films. Oh, well, at least he's directing my latest obsession, the Percy Jackson series (even though I wanted them to hold off for a few years so that I could direct it)

FUCK YES.
i am also extremely pumped for percy jackson.
and for harry potter
personally i view this one as being the best yet
it seems to capture the mood of the book much better
the pensive memories was always kinda gloomy and scary
and the trailers seem top show it like that.
i think this may do worse at the box office primarily because it is more about death, and more gloomy.
therefore the younger harry potter fans may not get to see it.
im seeing it opening night though.

I'm really looking forward to the release, I was so pissed when they moved the release date back, All I can say is that it better be worth the wait, Which I think it will be to people already familiar with the HP series.
I hope they have something big planned to get everyone set for the release, They havnt done enough so far. "Hey, Lets put a trailer up on the MYV Movie awards" NO NO NO NO NO. Thats hardly the way to reach the audience they are trying to reach. There aren't alot of kids who watch the Movie awards but there are millions, possibly billions who love harry potter and everything that it stands for. How do they expect to rech out to them?
I feel there is no magic [pardon the extremely bad pun] this time round. When Order of the Phoenix was goign to be released it was surrounded by the hype of dathly hallows as the release of the book was big news, the topic of "Will Harry Die" was being covered by media EVERYWHERE. I think that same sort of hype needs to be recreated for this movie to do well.

I'm excited, but also kind of pissed off since its rated PG. They cut out the final battle because they said it was to much like DH's final battle and they cut out Dumbeldore's funeral because they said it didn't fit with the rest of the movie. I just think thats really stupid to cut two really important parts for those reasons.

I thought some of the casting was really weird. Like, Grover is being played by Brando Jackson who played Alpha Chino in Tropic Thunder and Alexandra Daddario who is playing Annabeth looked like I immagined her. But I think they made a good choice with Logan Lerman for Percy.

I'm sure it will be adequate, but likely not much more. The energy is gone. The "Potter" phenom is over. The furor has passed. I'm guessing this one will do well on video, but disappointing at the box office - it'll make a profit, but not the mega bucks they have in the past. There are no more books to feed the flame. Everyone already knows how it ends. Sure, they knew how LotR ended, but most folks were far enough away from the last time they read them and nostalgic enough to want to see how it came out on film. AND it was only 3 movies.
Not so Harry. It's still fresh in people's minds.
If Rowling had been smart, she would have slowed the release of the subsequent books, to help bolster the film series. At this point, I think most folks involved are desperate to get it all over with so they can move on to other things. The way I see it, the final film will be direct to video, and cg at that so that Radcliffe isn't sporting a beard by the end, and it won't be in competition with Emma Watson's hidden camera sex tape.

From what ive heard they've already done alot of the filming on the 7th movie. So unless emma watson feels the need to get out there and make some guys day real quick i dont think that will be a problem. and for daniel radcliffe growing a beard, im not sure if he even can. and if he can its not like he can't shave. i understand what you are getting at i am just disagreeing. i don't think it will be straight to dvd at all. that may be because i am biased towards harry potter as i love the books/movies, but i know alot of people who agree the 7th book is the best and they are all waiting for that film.
As for the final battle being a short part of the book, im not sure if you all remember reading that part. That was one of my favorite parts of any of the books. It was the biggest climax i have read from any of the books minus the 7th.

I know, I was just being snarky. There will be a noticeable drop in attendance though. There are plenty of loyal fans still, but I think a substantial portion of the initial audiences were just swept up in the mania ("Perry Hotter? Yeah I hear everyone's going and I of course have been reading the comics since the beginning...ooh look, shiny objects..."), and now that the mania is basically over, the numbers will drop to the actual fanbase +1.

Yeah I've been re-reading the books and stuff. Personally, I love the books and movies. I'm really excited for the new movie to come out, and I hope it is really good. But I do think that not as many people will watch it in theaters. By now, people either like it or they don't, it's not really "Let's give it a try...".
But personally, I think it's an awesome series.
Wait, I just re-read the thread. THEY CUT OUT THE BATTLE AND THE FUNERAL!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! How can they do that?! The battle is awesome and it would just be awesome to see it on screen. As well as that's when (BIG spoilers. Don't read unless you've already finished all the books) Snape kills Dumbledore. Which is a huge part. And if they cut out the funeral, then it will make less sense when
Voldy steals the wand from Dumbledore's grave...

But it would look so cool on film. I don't know why they kept it out. If they put it in the trailers, a lot of people would go see if for the "cool fighting scene". They could have made more money with it in the movie.
I'd like to see someone make a movie that is exactly like the book, shot for shot. It doesn't have to be HP, I just want to see it done.

Umm there's nothing "adult" in the Harry Potter universe - the books were written for the juvenile market.

Hmm, I had to skim most of these comments because I think they had SPOILERS in 'em! Argh!
I have my Harry Potter IMAX tickets already - bought them a few weeks ago - and I'm very excited!
I don't think the movies will drop in attendance, even though the books are done. I for one never read the books and I still see the movies. Also, they're opening up a Harry Potter land in Universal Studios Orlando next year or so, and that will help keep the Harry Potter phenomenon alive, IMHO.

I thought it sucked...it started out good and the acting was great, but then kept moving farther and farther from the book. It was paced all wrong and there was ALOT of nonessential plot that could've been replaced with something useful. Personally, I find David Yates to be the worst director on the series, worse yet they have (and will continue to) let him direct the rest of the movies.

Hmm.. I thought it was a great movie up until the las ten minutes, AKA the return to Hogwarts after the Horcrux search. From that point o it was badly approached by Yates as well as by the actors.
My other problems wer two actos Broadbent (Slughorn), and the young Riddle. These actors left something to be desired.
Also the complex plot is VERY difficult to do well in a movie and hit everything..but they tried hasrd.
LAstly, I thought the new scene with the buning Burrow was a great touch.

I saw it a midnight showing in Chile (HAHA an hour before America!) and I think it was by far the best HP movie. I really disliked Order of the Phoenix, but this was really good. I thought that acting was great and I thought Slughorn was perfectly casted and Helena Bonham Carter had an awesome part. But I think what really made this movie was the cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel, so I'm pretty mad he wont be working on Deathly Hallows.

punkandska66
07-19-2009, 11:43 AM
They didn't "grow out of it". I assume you've read the books, so you may have noticed this. The first three were (although there was a lot of evil in them) rather happy. Well, not really happy, but I can't think of a better work to describe them. It was like the three were still learning about themselves, and learning about magic and it's still new and wonderful to them. By the fifth one everything becomes dark. They're done with "happy", and they're trying to kill Vold- er... You-Know-Who. So everything becomes darker. The next two moves are probably going to be twice as dark as this one.
Saw it at the midnight showing and I though it was awesome. I was in Chicago (we're house hunting. Blegh) so I saw it there. We were there for five days, and all five days I completely geeked out. Everything revolved around HP. We even went the the Museum of Science and Industry to see the Harry Potter exhibit. Which was brilliant by the way. They had like 250 (something around there) things that were actually used in the movie. Wands, clothes, pictures, galleons, potions equipment, and a bunch of other cool stuff. Even if you don't like HP, I think most people here [on indymogul] would have found it really interesting because it's like how they made the movie.
