View Full Version : Pseudo Nudity?

I am making a movie in which two characters (one male and one female) enter the same shower at (roughly) the same time. The main problem is how to make it appear as though they are naked without actually showing any nudity or causing too much embarassment on the female's behalf. Comments? Suggestions?

Make her wear a bikini top, and just have the guy go shirtless.
Film them from the shoulders up.
If you need more of her back in the shot, you can cover the front with pasties (or get those gigantic band-aids) cover her chest with them, then just film her from the back, even though her chest won't be exposed.
That's what they did in Eurotrip, when she pulled up her shirt on the road to get the car to pull over, she was covered with basically a strap-less stick-on bra in the front, so it looked like she wasn't wearing anything from the back.

Hmm yes we have thought about that. Problem is getting someone to do that whom we hardly know. I appreciate the reply though!

just ask the actress... you'd be surprised how comfortable actors are with themselves.

Why can't you get someone you do know that can do it? Or maybe for the from behind shot you could have a friend that looks like your actress do it, then just use your actress for the face close ups.

Just ask. Ask what she is comfortable with, it might turn out she's completely fine with it.
But I don't see why she wouldn't be comfortable with just a bikini top, as long as you explain the logistics of how it's going to be filmed and how you're going to "fake" the nudity beforehand.

^that is a good point
not only how old are the actors
but also how old are you. because if you are some 14 year old trying to see some boobs this isnt gonna happen
something i was thinking of though
you could get a skin tone suit
and then have your shot from kinda far back and have abunch of fog and such from the shower, this will give the illusion that they are naked.

well, a tube top might be one solution. Film above her top obviously. Its more about camera angles in this case, then it is your actors or what they are wearing.(tho that is important, don't get me wrong) but I believe they use just a basic tube top, on the daytime dramas. Also, as for as the pasties and such, would it be entirely impossible, to have your actress apply them herself?

If he is asking, I am assuming that they are of legal age, and he's already got all the legalities worked out.
I doubt no one out of who knows how many people he has on set, and how many actors he has would go, "Wait, these people are underage, you can't do this, etc." if that's the case.
Regardless, he's talking about how to FAKE a scene with two people who are supposed to be nude, not how to get actually naked picture, so it's not illegal if he isn't showing anything.
If its a professional actress (not some chick you pulled off the street....) she should be fine with it as she would know about what kinda fake nudity effect your trying to get at from experience as an actress and would understand you not just looking to see some boobs, unless you are. which is bad.

I'm 19 and still seeking an actress to play that particular part (the only person we still need to cast actually). She will have to be about my age to fit the part anyway, but I don't have the money to actually hire someone. Oh and if I just wanted to see boobs, this isn't the right website

ROFL! Too right. There are definitely actors who will work for free and be comfortable with nudity. You just have to ask. You can even specify that you won't be showing nudity in the film, just implying it (often actors not ok with nudity, will be not ok with implied nudity).

One thing I failed to mention earlier was that it is for comedy purposes. Looking back at my first post, it sounds like I'm looking for romantic scene. The two enter the same shower on accident so its more awkward.
Given the situation maybe a tube top and some well planned camera angles could do quite well

yeah if your'e about that age you should get the skin tone suit but if you're like 20 30 and see it as an artform she might be comfortable with it

In a film I'm doing, a character must do everything for the other, and at one part, he has to give the person a towel when they come out of the shower nude, and there is an angle on their butt, but we don't want the people to be in the same room for privacy reasons.

Uh, try using a remote to operate your camera, or cast for a new actor. If there is someone who they are comfortable being around, get that person to hand them a towel. Seriously, or just put a blindfold. Pretty simple if you ask me.
Or if you want a shot of not just the hand, use a greenscreen and try to composite it in.

Is it a man or a woman? For a man you could buy a condom and paint it black. For a woman you could buy some bra pads and use a piece of latex over her private area. The downside is that she would have to know how to do makeup. and spirit gum may give way but its better than nothing. Or you could just cut it so it doesn't show anything. And your actor doesn't have to be naked.
She can be in the shower and the dude can hand the towel to her from out side the shower all you see is the hand grabbing the towel from inside.
