Were you planning on buying it anytime soon? They're probably jacking up the price so people will be all 'Well the HV40 is only this much more, I might as well spend a little extra to get the newest model.' I haven't actually looked at the specs but if its like the differences between the 20 and 30 (which were pretty much non existent except for the color) then its all a bunch of horseshit.
And that is my little rant for the day :) that should hold me over until work tomorrow...

I know I finally saved up the money for one and they jack up the price :( I've been looking at it in other stores but all of them either have a higher price or are sold out.

You bought it when it was 749, or when it was cheaper and now theyre making you pay another 150?

When it was 749. This is such fucking bullshit. If I knew it would cost me 200 dollars to ship it I would never have bought from an American website. I can't just not pay and get a refund for it because I start production on my feature in 2 weeks and I don't have the time to get my money back and order Canadian. I just got completely shafted. Fuck fed ex and fuck duties. From now on I'm buying Canadian. For the price it's costing me to get this HV30 I could have a new HV40. Fucking bullshit.

The main upgrade in the HV40 its Native 24p mode. This eliminates the need to perform a pulldown. I'm actually ordering the HV40 tomorrow. I waited until a package deal was available. It's not listed online, but if you call B&H they will setup the deal over the phone.

Keep following it. The price has been fluctuating. It started at $999, then $950, $899, $849, $829, and now back to $899. I nabbed it when it was $829. They don't list any kit deals yet, but if you call them directly, they will give you one of the HV30 kits and adjust for the price difference in the camera.

Now I'd pay that for one. Nearly $1000 is too much for that camera. I can get used XL1s all day for $1400.

There is really nothing wrong with refurbs. Most are very lightly used and were just returned because the customer just didnt want it for whatever reason. They all get retested to make sure they meet the original factory specifications. The only time you may have a problem with a refurb is if the originally company is not the one responsible for quality testing the returned items.
