It's probably gonna suck, but I still want to see it ;)

I can't wait till the end when Shamalan tells us that Zuko is actually the Avatar and Aang was a false prophet. Also the trees kill people.

I kind of like the idea and the cartoon serie of avatar, it looks like it's a pretty good film of the serie, I hope it won't be an other fail like with dragonball :(

I could never sit through a full episode of DB, so the movie being a suckfest didn't scar me. I've never seen any of Avatar, so I'm sure it's lack of adherence to the canon likely won't affect me either. Despite his recent failures, I do know that Shamalamadingdong does know how to tell a compelling story.

It looks as though he's not trying to translate it into the modern world, which is often the disasterous compromise that adaptations take in trying to make the material more approachable for a general audience. A good adaptation, despite fanboy protests, doesn't have to adhere to the letter of the story so long as the writer/director understands the core nature of the story.

Look at Batman - Nolan's Batman vs Joker doesn't adhere 100% to the canon set forward in the comics, but it understands the nature of the charaters in relation to each other. The Joker is a dark reflection of the Batman. He takes the scars of his tragedy (visible in his case) and vents his pain on the innocent. Batman's internal scars drive him to take his pain, and vent it in protecting the innocent. "The Killing Joke" showed that it wasn't the chemical bath that made the Joker, but the travesty that was his life. The chemicals didn't create him, they simply gave a face to his pain. That's why "Dark Knight" works even though it's not 100% pure Batman; because Nolan understands and respects the charaters, whereas Shumacher didn't (of course Schumacher wasn't working with the Joker, but he still could have found more to do with the overtly tragic Mr. Freeze than a series of bad puns and sound bites).

I used to love that show. It'll probably make a good movie, but I'm not going to pay 10 dollars to see it.

How is he not adhering to canon? This looks (at the moment) like a deeply faithful adaptation of the source material.

Frankly I think this looks like it could be awesome. M. Night is a fantastic director who suffers from (recently at least) his writing simply not stacking up, so I am looking forward to a film by him that isn't original material by him, he needs to do a few movies outside of his head for a while.

Looks good! I'm impressed. (MNShablabla directing it doesn't hurt either.)
I didn't think it was gonna look good at all, but the trailer raised my expectations.

I have some expectations for this movie, but they are not very high. Cartoons like this that are translated into feature films usually don't work very well. Personally I'm very happy with the cartoons big head expressions and Aang's fully blue arrow. I wonder how Appa is going to look. lol I might see it, but then again thats a whole year from now.

Oh I wasn't saying he'd gone off canon, just that that is what most folks complain about, even in good adaptations.

This is exactly how i feel, everyone pans m.night saying how terrible of a director he is, and in turn saying that this movie is going to be awful. i think this ones gunna be good, im excitied for it, but than again, a lot can happen in a year.

Absolutley in agreement with you WesScog. Shamalans lack is in his writing not his direction. His films suck because of story elements.
I felt that this teaser lacked much to grab the attention of an uneducated viewer. I absolutley loved the series therefore I will see it out of interest but the trailer seemed very simple. I would have rather waited another 6 months and had my mind blown with some more robust content.

I agree with you on your expecations. I am weary. Give it a chance though. Its not like the story is banking on the sucess of the live action movie. The animation is done so this is a chance to experience the story in a new light.

Well I hope this is a good movie and for those who didn't know since the movie is working with Nick I assume it will stick to the storyline since they are partly the shows creators.
