hey,
i was wondering which would be better to get, the HG20, or the GZ-HD40?

edit- also, do they come with the battery and charger from B&H?

I'd say the JVC, but that's the camera I use so of course I'd say JVC, although, I had a chance to play with the Canon HF S10, which was a pretty nice camera. Considering I paid $1400 for my GZ-HD40, I would have bought the HF S10 if it were out at the time.

The GZ-HD7 and HD6 are also nice cameras that you may be able to get cheaper since the HD40 replaced them. They are 3CCD, the HD40 is CMOS.

would i be able to remove that cheasy lens hood it has, and put a wide angle lens on it? also, does it have a mic input?

I think i'll maybe think about getting the HD7, instead. The only bad thing is that it's only 60gb hard drive. the hd40 has a 120gb hard drive
does the HD7 have a port that you can put the camera on when putting video into the computer?
I think I might just go with the HD40 though, bigger hard drive!

Higher possible max Bitrate for MPEG-TS mode.
Potentially less compression artifacts in said mode.

CONS:
No Optical Image Stabilization.
No other frame rates.
Can't adjust the shutter and aperture at the same time.

so which is better? or should i get neither, and get something else?

For the price, I would say that the HG20 is the more versatile camera.
