D9 was incredible. This movie, however, looks kind of strange

Is this based off of the animated series? If so, the trailer looks nothing like it. From the trailer it looks like a lot of special effects thrown together.

No. That's "The Last Airbender".

They are. On the news it said that this was based off of the animated series. The special effects look very well done but the movie in general looks kind of stupid. Just like d-ball z "evolution".

No guys, No. AVATAR is a movie about aliens. Because this was named this way before The last air bender live action movie they have to name the movie based off the show the last air bender.

I see people comparing this to District 9 and I dont think it should be. Yes they are both about aliens but doesnt mean they are to be compared. District 9 was supposed to look like a real thing where as AVATAR is a story about fictional aliens. I think the CG in District 9 was amazing and people think the AVATAR CG doesnt look good but i think its does cause it fits the feel of the movie. A lot of people today have been comparing it to an adult pixar movie and i agree and i love pixar. I just think it shouldnt be compared to District 9 cause they are completely different movies. Its just like when WATCHMEN came out everyone was asking and comparing it to THE DARK KNIGHT. Those 2 movies are completely different and I love them both but i would never compare them.

I disagree with some of what your saying, I believe comparing it to District 9 is completely accurate. They are both being released around the same time. James Cameron said that 9 out of 10 shots with 3d looked completely real. He is trying for a real look. He also claims that this is brand new technology, and that people haven't seen CGI to be this real. D9 used standard effects equipment and almost all of the movie looked life like. None of what I've seen here looks at all close to the realisticness (not a word) of D9. This movie was also made on a 100+million $ budget, whereas D9 was made with 30mill. The story may not be compareable, but the effects work is.. Mostly because of Cameron's claims.

Correct. The Last Airbender is based on "Avatar: The Last Airbender".
This is just "Avatar" and it's based on something James Cameron came up with a long time ago, not related to the cartoon at all. Apparently he's been bouncing the story around and developing the technology for it for many many years, so it wouldn't be to out there to assume that he had the name "Avatar" copyrighted for this film LONG before "Avatar: The Last Airbender" even came on air.
Thus why "Avatar: The Last Airbender", had to change it's name to just, "The Last Airbender".

Cameron claimed that they have changed the way of movie making with the technology they used to make the movie not the actually final product

Everyone seems to be basing their opinions of whether or not this movie will be good on what Cameron has said about it. I for one have heard nothing about this movie and think it looks quite interesting.

Ooooooh, Okay. Thanks Wes and Bubblefax.
About the CGI:
Are you people dumb? Sorry, but are you watching what I'm watching??? The CGI in this movie is AMAZING. Just watch it again. The CGI is mind blowing. The first atleast 5 scenes are ALL CGI. They look incredible, as do the aliens. The aliens do (I admit) look a little stylized. But it still looks great!

The CGI is great, but it isn't the mindblowing kind that would revolutionize cinema that we were promised.
If it wasn't for all the hype, I think this would look pretty good, but judging from this trailer I feel sorely let down.

OKay, I agree you all have a point considering what Mr. Cameron had said.
BUT! Take a look at this review of the 15mins of footage that was shown today in select theaters:
Seeing the 15 minutes of footage yesterday reminded me of when I first saw Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park. It is groundbreaking and the bar has been raised. The trailer doesn't give you any idea of how amazing the footage looked on the big screen. When I saw the trailer I thought the footage looked too CG in parts but on the big screen that wasn't the case.
Everything was photo realistic and just stunning. The only thing that tricked my eye was the knowledge that what I was looking at wasn't real. I've never seen photo realistic blue aliens interact before like this.
For me, Cameron once again has taken a huge bold gamble on this film and I think it's going to pay off huge.

In my town (I actually think all over America) they had a special extended preview at an Imax theater, it showed clips that were about 5 minutes from all over the 1st half of the movie, and after seeing it, this is going to definitely be one of the best films of the winter. The CGI is incredible, most of the movie is completely CGI, but it's a great blend of both live action and CGI. The story line, from what I understand so far is really good. And the whole movie it's self is completely visually stunning! If it hasn't come to your town yet, go to Avatarmovie.com and get your FREE tickets. I seriously cant wait till this movie comes out.
EDIT: Sorry, I just checked and you cant get preview tickets anymore. :(
ANOTHER EDIT: Just read all the posts and everyone already knew about this. Haha, sorry.

Yeah, the trailer itself doesn't give credit to the 15 minute preview I saw.
You all gotta believe that this will be one grrrrrreat movie!

I saw both district 9 and Avatar... the story of Avatar and love of nature makes Avatar better than district 9, but the 3d animation of D9 is really perfect and i mean very perfect. I will be making another film studies essay writing (http://www.essaywriter.co.uk/services/film-studies-essay-writing.aspx) for district 9 and Avatar.
