Do They make such a thing? I'm looking for an easy, hopefully cheap bald-cap type material that can cover up a face on an actor. I was thinking about using a large thin sheet of latex, but that can get expensive if I mess it up too often. Any body seen anything like this?

I doubt this would work, but could it be possible to take 2 bald caps and when applying them use spirit gum to attach the two? (put one on the back of your head and one on the front) Cause i searched around on the ol' interweb and couldn't anything like that.

Same here, I couldn't even think of what they'd be called, haha. I searched under a lot of terms. But That's not a terrible idea, il keep it in mind. Thanks!

One possible way of doing this it to take a face cast of the person; them make a positive mold of this. Then build up the face so it is featureless and make a latex appliance from this. If you cover the mouth entirely make sure you add a tube so the actor can breathe, and don't forget that your actor won’t be able to see. Also take extra care with the actor as they will probably be feeling very claustrophobic and disoriented.

you could get a fencing mask and wear it.

you could get a fencing mask and wear it.

They could also wear a bucket over their head.

The idea is to make a blank FACE.

You might try what they used to do for this effect - use a nylon stocking and paint/makeup over it. The makeup helps to make it more opaque, but it's still air and light permeable so your actor will JUST be able to see and breathe. Just have to shoot it just right.

Yea, it'd be tricky. I guess I can try that, thanks guys.

I was thinking maybe it could work to use stockings? like the kind that come in different skin tones that you could match up with your actor. Also, that would allow them to see and also to breath, and because they are so tight, they would form to their head, to fit the face shape. does that make sense?

What do you need this for?
Does the mouth have to be covered too? (this is the big problem with latex to make a totally black face - breathing is a good sign)

I found this (http://www.vicsage.com/misc/wessler.php), looks like it would work.

they do not make them, the best idea is to take an alginate head cast of your actor(lots of tutorials on youtube to do this)

then your going to want to take a plaster cast of the inside of your mould

and then your going to want to make another plaster cast of the plaster cast and then this one should be hollow,so your going to want to get some silicone or mask making latex and swish it around inside, you can either do this this in layers or in one bulk load

i hope this helped

get a paper plate, put a sheet of wax paper over it. Pour liquid latex on it. a very small amount. Spread it out as wide as you need it to be. Let it dry. Repeat. Eventually you will have a thin solid piece of liquid latex. I did this accidentally before. It works great.

Guess he's looking for some "Sage" advice...

<edit> relevant to this, check out Blinky on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7gHnGD3w04)... he's made some really good fan films (I'm fond of the PowerGirl ones myself), but he also did a Question film, and this link goes to his tutorial on how he did the Question mask... </edit>
